We really didn't know what to expect aside from reading reviews. It's different! We wanted different. We didn't want a typical hotel room. We wanted character and I feel that is exactly what we got. Great location! Fabulous service from the bar, restaurant, and other staff! Free wifi and breakfast each morning were a huge plus! The Belfry suite (in the attic) had plenty of room for our family of four as well as a great view. They even provided a tv and playstation along with games which was nic.
all reviews » The Guy Fawkes Inn is such a great place, the location is spot-on for a stay in York, the place is steeped in history and the rustic charm of the inn is amazing, you feel like you've travelled back in time once you step through the door, but in a good way :) The staff are amazing, very professional and very friendly, you feel at home straight away. The rooms are great, very clean and comfortable with great facilities. The food is outstanding! Presentation is awesome and it tastes amazing. We've. We had a lovely relaxing stay at The Guy Fawkes Inn in April. Good centeral location. Nice, clean and comfey room. Good breakfast and lovely food from a varied menu. (The steak pie is one to try -delicious) The theme is something a bit different, we enjoyed it. Its a very lively inn with music ect until about 11.30 but again it added to the atmosphere we loved it. The staff were very pleasent, frendly and attentive and all our needs were met, we will definately stay again when visiting York. Th. We have just had 2 excellent nights at the Guy Fawkes Inn and cannot fault it. Its location in York is ideal being close to all of the major attractions. Shane and the staff could not have been more helpful and made us feel very welcome. The whole Inn is very atmospheric - sloping floors, door frames, etc. Our room (room 4) was large, comfortable and over looked the Minster. Both breakfast and dinner were of a very high standard. We will definitely stay here again. Fantastic! We booked a double and a family room. Double was just lovely. Family room in attic provided a great source of entertainment for all! Attic room so not recommended for tall people but my kids (and I) loved it! Meal in restaurant was lovely and staff all very helpful and friendly. Breakfast superb. Lovely breakfast in fact it was a candle lit breakfast, with candles dotted around the place and traditional gas lighting.Leading to the rooms was an old wooden staircase and un level floors it was like stepping back in time, Also out back was a lovely beer garden.I would stay here again and would recommend to others. Our room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. The restaurant was lovely - lit by candles and gas lights - and the food was very good. It's a quirky historic building which has been maintained sympathetically with the buildings around it. The hotel's charm is it's family run feel and it's small size.... Which we liked. As its is called Guy Fawkes Hotel the traditional ambiance of his birthplace is replicated well, Quickly sorted out car park permits but 10 minutes walk away so we should have dropped off cases first.Lovely ground floor room but stone floors dirty. Prompt freshly cooked breakfast served by happy staff. We as a family really liked our family room, the beds were comfortable, the staff, ever so obliging and friendly,the decor was just great so very different and the food excellent.We would stay again and reccomend this unusual hotel, but how nice to have unusual, but clean and well managed unusual !. We stayed in Guy Fawkes own cottage very nice room the court yard was a sun trap you didnt have to drink much to feel tipsy when you look at the building structure it leans in every direction really makes you see the history of the times dont take a spirit level with you.****. The location is in a pedestrian only area during most days, but the entrance is only a few metres from a vehicular street. I loved the history and the character of the Guy Fawkes Inn. Having just returned from a very relaxing 5 days at the Guy Fawkes, I cannot speak highly enough of wonderful old inn. I thought the bar downstairs was really good with the candle light really captured the theme of the bar and the breakfast in the morning was spot on. Asked the staff for a couple of things and they were all amazing from the bar staff to the cleaners. It was my first weekend away with my girlfriend. the room was fabulous and special with a four poster bed,the staff were very good breakfast was included it was continental but that was fine location could not have been better right in the centre. Location of Hotel is perfect for discovering York and its attractions. To food was excellent and staff were brilliant and very friendly.The guest york brewery beers were top notch!I would recommend the Yorkshire Blonde that a beer not the barmaid!. atmosphere very old world but not naff the staff were some of the best we have ever come across. food not gourmet but fresh well cooked not over expensive. rooms clean but still retained the old world charm plus a wonderful selection of real ales. All of the staff were courteous, helpful, friendly and remedy to work as a slick team. The accommodation was full of character, romantic and beautiful and the food was first class. It was also central to all the tourist attractions of york. The is full of character, a real old inn, you would have thought by entering the Inn you had gone back in time. It was a really good experience and a really good location for the city centre, I would recommend the Inn to anybody. We booked this at the very last minute when we decided we didn't want to drive home after a show. The fact that although it is a pub the rooms are interesting and individual and they take care to close the public areas which may affect the residents when it gets late.Was in an excellent location with everyting in walking distance just what was needed for a short break. The Innwas in very good location next to the Minster. The young staff were polite and friendly. We enjoyed our breakfast and had a lovely large room. This was a great historic building with character and charm. Food is excellant here. Very good location. York minister through your bedroom window. It's probably not best for those with mobility issues unless you book a cottage room. The beds were not so comfortable but the pillows made up for it. Nothing :). Nothing we liked our stay throughout. The only thing I would comment on is that we dont think the Inn would be suitable for young children with the noise from the bar. This is only our opinion and not a complaint in any way. Nothing - although my husband (over 6ft) would say the low ceilings in the attic room. Room 10 is a bit stark and cold - even in the month of May with not so much as a rug on the bedroom floor or in bathroom. Without slippers a trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night results in very cold feet! A bit too much style over substance. You do have to park about 10mins walk away but fortunately we travelled light and the weather was perfect... The view from our room (room 4) overlooking the soectacular minster was fabulous but the noise in the early hours of groups of people passing by and then early morning refuse & delivery vehicles didn't provide a restful night's sleep. Nothing!. like the stone floors in room,but they need a clean for a bedroom. Not having a shower was the only dislike, but the bath was a good one and we enjoyed the modern bathroom.One had to be just a bit careful in the Belfry room as it has some very low patches, so watch your head ! we enjoy a very old house, so we were not phased by this, just a caution for those who are not used to this sort of accomodation. breakfast was a bit chaotic but the waitress done her best I thought we were on a break so no hurry. A bit expensive, parking not very convenient, no tv remote, no telephone, room was a bit small and didn't have a make-up mirror on the dressing table, restaurant was a bit too dark, quite noisy at night downstairs in the bar and outside the bedroom window. Also booked half board but this only allowed £20 per head per night. The only this I was disappointed with was the bed. we stayed in room 6 and the bed was really noisey every timed me or my partner mover made a very loud creaky noisey and did keep us up during the night. nothing. car park about half a mile away and an extra £5 a day. Nothing. Took us a while to find the road to the Inn but got there eventually. Room could have been cleaner. Lack of parking was a nightmare. The hotel itself was nice but really gloomy. The lighting in the room was very bad for putting on makeup. Lightbulb out not replaced and a very leaky radiator in the bathroom which looked like it hadn't been attended to in a long time. The room was very hot, the room lacked good ventilation. There was a small fan supplied, but this was woefully inadequate. It was difficult to sleep, even with the window fully opened. The floor was always warm to the touch...(Room 2). Nothing not to not like except extra pillows would be an idea. I knew the bathroom didnt have a shower but it needed a receptical to wash hair especially where the children have long hair but thats all. Only minor niggle - the hotel advertises as "parking = yes" when actually the parking arrangements are with a council car park a little way away. This is not a problem unless your satnav tries to take you to the hotel itself, across Lendal Bridge which is now buses and taxis only - oops, £60 fine!. Nothing. I hardly had any sleep at all because of the noise from other rooms. We could hear a TV on until 3 in the morning, extractor fans, and noise in the yard early on in the morning. The walls seemed to be very thin so you could hear the other guests. I hate to say it but it was maybe the worst nights sleep I've had in a hotel! Everything else was lovely though!. The position of the "executive" room we were given (through the Courtyard up metal steps which were slippery after rain). Thought it was a bit pricey for room. Parking is not nearby and not easily accessible. No on site parking and finding the hotel was difficult if not familiar with York. Quite noisy if overlooking the street. The bathroom could have done with a dust around plugs and skirting boards and top of toilet roll holder but the bedroom was nice and clean. Sofa bed could have done with being more comfortable. Nothing. Quite expensive as city breaks go. It was very warm but we had two fans in our room which we used constantly. The only slight criticism I would have is that quite a few selections on the menu were not available. No vegetarian breakfast. I was a little concerned about the candles all round the bar and everywhere down stairs with the risk of fire. Our room 3 had no working radiator so asked for an electric heater which was not very good. The price you pay for the room you would expect heating? My daughter were in Room 5. Good small room with character but there was a strong smell. Not pleasant.
