The setting was great: very near the shops but it felt nicely out of the town and was very quiet indeed. It was a very cosy and romantic place, and the staff were fantastic. We arrived late and the receptionist made us some soup and sandwiches!! Couldn't have chosen a better hotel :). We found the hotel staff all very polite, helpful and friendly. It wascentral to where we needed to be. I particulary found the Hotel securityvery reassuring. The views were outstanding, and we plan to stay again,depending on our situation in this credit crunch.

However, not a veyr long walk.Only small things:The lamp shade in the room was just balancing on the lamp, the bed frame had come away from the wall, the sitting rooms were a little chilly until the fires went on at 6:00 pm and the breakfast under lights was a little dry. A very small point, but there was little space in Room 2 for boiling the kettle safely.Room did not have much toilet roll. The very loud disco noise and the clearing up afterwards on the first .night Dining room not available on the first night and not being able to eat when we wanted on the last night. The preference went to the wedding .Space should have been provided for other visitors.The cost of lunch was expensive in relation to the quality of the food. Decor, particularly in the bathroom very tired and needs some attention.Reception area need tarting up, but this did not spoil our stay. There is no receptionist on duty during the late PM and early AM, and no vending.Breakfast a little cramped. Radio didn't really work. Unfortunately we had ants in the bathroom and on the dressing table but that was not the fault of the hotel as it was very clean. Breakfast was mediocre at best. Some areas of the hotel looking a bit tired and shower/toilet in my room was very cramped. Beds were a bit hard. Internet connection didn't work, limited channels on TV. there was a horrible noise coming through the floor all night. My only criticism is that the evening meal was a little on the pricey side for what it was. Although I have no complaint about my main course my colleagues' main dishes were not well prepared and one got sent back.The dining rooms/conservetory - furniture needs replacing, the blinds were marked. It had no ambeiance and character. I would not want to use the dining room for evening meal. Dining facilites/breakfast all need updating. The hotel is looking a bit dated and a refurbishment is needed in places. The outside looks wonderful, but on entry the reception looks 'worn'.Found the cooked breakfast to be very mediocre, I was not very impressed by the quality of the food on offer.

Travelling information

By Car:
From the M3:
- Exit onto the A303.
- Exit the A303 via the A343/A30, following signs for Salisbury/Middle Wallop.
- Alternatively, you can continue on the A303 and take the A345 sign posted Amesbury/Salisbury.
- When you arrive in Salisbury, follow directions for Southampton (A36) and then towards Blandford (A354).
- Filter left at the junction after Southampton Road, then move into the right-hand lane in preparation to turn right at the traffic lights onto New Harnham Road.
- Carry on past the church on the right.
- The hotel entrance is approximately 40 metres on the right.

From the M4:
- Exit onto the A34 towards Newbury/Andover/Southampton.
- Leave the A34 via the A303 towards Andover and follow directions as above.

By Train:
Salisbury is on the Waterloo/Exeter main line; travelling time from Waterloo is approximately 1.5 hours. The Grasmere Hotel is situated about 3.2 km (2 miles) from the station.
