The hotel is 40 minutes’ drive from Totnes mainline train station. Dartmoor National Park is only 30 minutes’ drive away, as is Plymouth.

Superb location with hotel tucked into the side of a green hill overlooking the sea - very peaceful and serene ! All rooms are located at ground level (brilliant if stairs are a problem) and our room was very comfortable and well equipped. Staff were very friendly and always on hand to help. The food both at breakfast and dinner was superb and the service was very efficient and friendly. Overall a fantastic stay and my wife and I will certainly be going back again.

Although the weather was poor and visibility not particularly good during our visit, the hotel seems to be in a good position on the coast. Ongoing renovations caused a minor inconvenience during our stay. Bar & kitchen closes early. Food was a little overpriced. Only a small thing, the dining room felt a little like a café (albeit a very nice one!) - due the décor I think - and didn't seem quite right for the evening meal. No mobile phone connection O2 Broadband wifi only in lounge area. My room next to kitchen and bar area and suffered from some noise as people left bar late or staff in kitchens started early. No ventilation in room (7) except large patio door, it needs a window. These are only little moans but ventilation is important. Very expensive for what it was. Heater in room not working and not fixed after it was pointed out. Extractor fan not working and bathroom door handle held on (just) by only two screws. Breakfast was good qulaity but very limited for a 4 star hotel. This hotel relies on its stunning location to justify the price they charge. n/a. very little to comment on, some biscuits with tea/coffee making facility? but that is not a crticism. We found the bar a little too dark and preferred to take our drinks to the sofas in the lounge, where we could watch the sunsets- too good to miss!. décor of dining room and main entrance, price of wine. Having to leave after 2nights !. Awful canteen style kitchen with no ambiance full of screaming kids and obnoxious parents. No retreat for adults only Way to much money per night! A very hot pool room Basic bathroom with a very small bath an awful shower One bedside lamp Waiting for breakfast. This hotel is for families, as our wedding anniversary we were really disappointed. The food let it down a bit. the access drive was very long and one car wide passing was very difficult. TV a little small. Staff failed to give us clear advice and information about the hotel and its facilities. Prices for the food were quite expensive, especially for the childrens meal. The room was damp which meant that wet clothes and towels didn't dry throughout our stay. Breakfast service very very slow Too many dogs and children Beach a long way down hill. Grossly overpriced at £165 per night for B & B in mid September. We stayed on our wedding anniversary and had booked for two nights but because of the awful position of the room (next door to reception, which was noisy, and overlooked by the car park) we cancelled the second night and moved elsewhere. In our experience this hotel is not in the 'luxury' category.

The hotel is surrounded by naturally beautiful National Trust countryside and is just a 2.5 mile (4 km) walk from Bolt Head and the picturesque harbour town of Salcombe. The area is a paradise for bird watchers, wildlife enthusiasts and country lovers and can also be enjoyed by the old and the young alike. The Enid Blyton-style sandy cove is great for exploring rock pools and for safe bathing. Dartmoor National Park is only 30 minutes’ drive away, as is Plymouth and the Mayflower Steps, where the Pilgrim Fathers left England aboard the Mayflower to settle in North America on 6 September 1620. Bristol is 2 hours’ drive away or 2 hours by train and there is a choice of dozens of sandy beaches within a half-hour radius.
