I booked the hotel mainly because of its proximity to the venue for a college reunion dinner. A spacious free carpark in the centre of Oxford was an added bonus. The conversion from the old Barclays Bank has been carried out sympathetically and we had a spacious room for the night. Although it was just an overnight stay, we found the staff to be most welcoming and very attentive to our requests. Quod, the bistro attached to the hotel serves good food, as evidenced by its obvious popularity. Ne.
all reviews » The staff welcomed us back for our 1st wedding anniversary with their friendly, courteus mannerm and a bottle of champagne in the room- we first stayed at The Old Bank last year ,having just got married, and they made our trip extra special by upgrading our room and again giving us champagne. It's the little touches that make it so special! we will be back every anniversary!. The decor of the room, attention to detail and quality thereof, for example snacks, tea and coffee making facilities, special power plug on dressing table, quality of bathroom products, but above all, the bed, linen, duvet and pillows were 'heaven'! Everything crisp clean as well. The best I've ever experienced. very comfortable and smart, quiet room - water, coffee, toiletries replaced as I used them; very friendly and helpful staff - arriving early for check-in I was able to leave my bags and found them already in my room when I returned; superb location for central Oxford, from where everything I needed was walkable. That, even though it was in the centre of Oxford, it had ample parking. All of the staff were friendly, worked enthusiastically and with care. The hotel had distinctive qualities - it was not a homogenised experience. We were treated well. Just about everything! The ambience was superb, we loved the bustle of the restaurant and the friendliness of the staff. We hope to spend time again in Oxford as there is so much to see and we would be happy to stay ayt the Old Bank. Beds were extremely comfortable and bedding was appropriate for the climate. Staff were excellent and we were able to leave the car in the park for the day. Breakfast was more than adequate and location is very central. We felt very 'looked after', the staff were always generous with their time and attention to detail. The staff made us feel like we were the only ones there which of course was the way they made everyone feel. The staff were very welcoming and helpful . The hotel itself is very tasteful and contemporary without taking away from some of its original features. There are some great original artwork around the hotel. Fabulous location. Exemplary staff. I was accommodated promptly for an early sign-in. Stayed in Room 40, which has a lovely view over High Street. Easy access to bus to Heathrow. Great location, great atmosphere. Restaurant food good modern cooking, very popular and buzzy. All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Being made so welcome; tree walking tour of the university and shopping areas with a very knowledgeable guide; unhurried attitude of the staff and willingness to please. This is an excellent, classy hotel with very friendy, professional staff and beds that are just to comfortable for words. And the restaurant is top drawer too. Difficult access because of Oxford's one-way system. As a lover of beauty, I found nothing to recommend a great many of the paintings. They had a visual impact but it was not a nourishing one. Traffic tnoise and the occasional reveller in the small hours. We might ask for a rear-facing room next time. It's hard to find , but if pushed I'd say the mirror in the bedroom , it looked out of place in terms of design. ????. The car park is in the back and a little hard to find so contact hotel or booking for exact directions. nothing at all will definatley stay again on next visit not sure when that will be unfortunatley ... It would be nice to have chocolates with the turndown service. (A very minor quibble!). Didn't find a good gym at the hotel. difficulty of approach to carpark and time restrictions on High Street. Breakfast was not included in the price, which was already quite high for room only. We chose to have breakfast in the hotel but this ended up being very expensive. Nothing really. The overhead shower in our room (20) did not heat up but we just used the hand held shower. A minor inconvenience but did not spoil the overall stay. Restaurant is large and has an outside eating area but food was more cafe style. The fact that the taxis you ordered for us charged various prices for the same journey over the same length of time.The price varies between £4 and £11..you need tochange the firm you use. For the price I think the room could have been a little bigger. nothing. Breakfast not included in room price. Although the service in the Quod restaurant was first class the menu was rather limited for the price. Effectively we finished up having chicken and chips for dinner!. Nothing. Breakfast was pricey if all you want is a coffee and a pastry. Bed too soft - have a bad back and had to sleep on floor At this price - over £700 for 2 days for a superior double - felt that breakfast should be included - suggest Keble college b and b at a quarter of price if your going. None. Food was good but over priced. The rooms on the ground floor are not up to standard. Room heaters were not warm enough for a cold weekend. Difficult location of Parking lot. Our twin room was too small for us, very disappointed in size of room. Would have liked breakfast included in cost. Not a cheap stay. Light packing up in the bath room first thing in the morning and not being repaired until later that day. Some guestroom artwork very odd. Cost, £209 per night is pricy Breakfast not included even worse. £1 below our compnay nationwide max for a hotel room.
