In a beautiful, peaceful location, overlooking Oban Bay, the Isles of Kerrera, Lismore, Mull and the sound of Kerrera, this beautiful Victorian building is now a 5-star guest house.
Originally built as a summer residence by the Duke of Argyll in 1870, Dungallan Country House is situated on the edge of the town of Oban. The tranquil and secluded, yet commanding position means that the hotel offers superb views to 3 sides. Oban’s promenade and the town’s shops are just a 10-minute stroll away.
All of the en suite rooms have been fully refurbished to a very high standard and most have magnificent sea views.
Free wireless internet access is available throughout.
There is a cosy and exclusive bar, offering cocktails and a choice of over 100 single malt whiskies. With a huge picture window, the bar overlooks Oban Bay. The residents’ lounge is a great place to relax and read by the warmth of an open log fire.

What people say
The friendly atmosphere of Michael and Marion was the best part of the
stay. We stayed in many B&Bs on this trip and their service and
hospitality was superior to all others we stayed at so far. Even though
we got lucky and were able to stay only one night after a cancellation
we became friends and felt like we were there for a week. Marion and
Mike even stayed up with us until 12:30am trading stories and advising
us on our next journeys. Their place is absolutely a five star
experience on . all reviews »
We only stayed one night, but Marion and Mike made us feel so very welcome from the moment we stepped in the front door. The Hotel was spotless. Our room was beautiful and the view was spectacular. We even managed to catch a glimpse of the sperm whale in the bay, from our bedroom window. Breakfast was excellent. This is one of the nicest Hotels in Oban (and we have been in a few) we will definitely be back; as we were so sorry we couldn't stay a couple more days. My parents were also visiting .
This was a beautiful, historic house - more like a castle. My lovely
room had the most comfortable bed I have slept in. Ever. The whole house
was beautiful, luxurious, and very clean. There was a nice deep tub with
plenty of hot water. And the host, cooked a delicious omelet for
breakfast - not your typical hotel food, and he gave me a ride down to
the pier to catch the ferry in the morning. I would definitely recommend
this for women traveling alone, as I was. I felt safe and welcome for my
en.
I arrived very late, after 11.00pm having been held up in bad traffic.
The owners were very friendly and welcoming despite the late hour.
I left very early the following morning to catch the ferry, well before breakfast was served but I was given a tray in my room, including a 'good morning' banana.
The room was comfortable, the house itself is very stylish with tremendous views.
I'd certainly stay there again and recommend it to anyone.
Dungallan country house is superb, warm welcome from the owners. We were in the bridal suite situated in the tower. We had lovely view of Oban bay and Kerrera. It was a treat for our 21st wedding anniversary. We ordered Champagne for our room lovely to relax for a few hours before heading out for an evening meal at Eusk seafood restaurant. Very comfortable sleep and a perfectly cooked breakfast in the morning.Would love to go back sometime.
Spectacular location overlooking Oban bay and the inner Hebrides. Very warm welcome and fantastic breakfasts. Great little bar with amazing views. All in all a brilliant place to stay and would recommend a visit if you want to explore the area in style. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel is nice and quiet at night so you can sleep easily (big plus!). Also the touch sensitive bedside lights are a great idea-I must get some!.
the house was easy to find and in a beautiful setting. The single room I had was a good size and en suite with a very comfy small double bed. The view was amazing, looking over the bay. I took a book but mostly sat at the window when relaxing after a day sightseeing. The staff were on hand if required but not intrusive which I liked. I could go on, suffice to say I couldnt fault it. Hope to return.
The location is very good (10 minutes walking from the pier), the views from there are incredible, the rooms are really comfortable, and probably the most important, the attention from the staff was amazing, always making guests feel like they are at home.
Dungallan Country House is a very beautifully decorated B&B, very cosy and the location above Oban with its views simply beautiful. The scottish breakfast was excellent, we felt very welcome and everybody was very helpful with advise.
The guest house and room were beautiful, especially the residents bar with a view of Kerrera over the water. The breakfast was lovely and the hosts were very helpful and enthusiastic about what Oban had to offer.
I have stayed before in the Dungallan. It is an excellent place to stay. Run by the owners who are happy to cater for your wishes to make the stay enjoyable. I will stay again and would recommend to my friends.
Everything, every detail has been thought about by Mike and Marion and the charm of their excellent taste as well as the friendly relaxed ambience were absolutely first rate.If I was rich I'd live there.
First and foremost , T he views Duggallan is the most imposing and elegant house. The views from our room were staggeringly beautiful. Breakfast was excellent and the whisky bar is world renowned.
Beautiful manor house transformed with much love into lovely hotel in Oban, extraordinary view from our beautiful room, most friendly hosts, certainly worth a longer stay than jus for business!.
Warm hospitality from Marion and Mike. Really comfortable room with great views. So peaceful and just nicely quirky. Not cheap but excellent value. Bar well stocked with 100 malt whiskies.
Beautiful setting and beautiful hotel.
The owners were lovely people who made us feel at home from our arrival.
We hope to return and will certainly recommend Dungallan to our friends.
This lovely Victorian home is classic in its fine accommodations and beautiful in its gorgeous view of Oban Bay. I will hope to return here someday.

perfect!beautiful view!.
breakfast was perfect.
Excellent all round.
Everything....
grounds, vista, building and staff fantastic.
Well kept and equipped house.
That they were book up and could not stay longer.
It was a little farther away from the pier than I expected, and would
have been a bit inconvenient to walk with my luggage, however,
because the host gave me a ride down to the pier in the morning, this
was no trouble at all. In addition, there are taxi's available
for only 5 pounds.
The room was very well presented and clean, but would benefit from a bit of modern styling to create a truly warm romantic glow for the colder winter nights in. Already very nice but could be absolutely amazing with a few extra touches.
The only negative might be the steep driveway up to the house although it helped walk off the fish and chips.
The one draw back is no restaurant, although the breakfast was very good.
Leaving.
We didn't want to leave.!!!.
Nothing.
Not one thing! It was superb!.
I know it's personal preference, but I'd have preferred a shower or maybe a shower screen, rather than just a bath.
nothing at all.
The warm weather was a factor and would have appreciated an oscillating fan in room.
Nothing.
Not much really - we had a lovely stay.
