First impression was the reception area really lovely and wecoming .Beautiful Christmas tree. Second impression the lovely staff on reception who made me feel so welcome. also the staff at breakfast were so friendly and helpful .Third impression the bedroom lovely and warm and clean. This is the first time I have ever stayed in a hotel on my own.The hotel is ideal as it is so near the railway station and shops. I will be back to your hotel and I am bringing my friends with me. all reviews » The location was excellent. Very close to everything, which was what we needed as we had never been to Newcastle before. The restaurant was great and the food was amazing. Limited facilities. car park not signposted and having to pay to park. very few free tv channels. the dirty windows and dust lying on windows sills. I stayed during the Christmas period and the bar hours were limited and restaurant closed. This was only made evident through a letter in the room when I checked in. The original single room I was given was cramped and tiny and at the back of the hotel. I had to pay a £20 a night upgrade for a large double room at the front.soap was not replenished one morning and film service wasn't working even after calling reception twice and poor picture quality. On arrival in my room (8.00pm) the room was really cold. The radiator was not on in either the room itself or the bathroom. I had to switch it on and then go down to the bar to wait until the room heated up.The room and bathrrom were a bit tired in need of redecoration. nothing really other than over priced breakfast. the price of the breakfast andnot enough tv channels to watch. They failed to update their records and tried to charge me for parking when i had already paid in advance. It took nearly 20 minutes to sort this error out.The room and general areas still reek of smoke. A deep clean should beundertaken to rid the place of the smell. Rooms small.room a little small. Single room was very small and the cost of breakfast in the hotel was very expensive. very noisey at night and the room was very small and dated. The hotel room we had was shabby and we were disappointed as we have stayed in Thistle hotels before and they have always been excellent. We would not choose this particular hotel again it was not worth what we paid.Noise from road/station opposite. Room was cold when I arrived (10 pm at night) There was a heater which warmed it up. There was no bath in my room only shower and bathroom was cold and drafty. The room was old, and I don't mean architecture. The walls needed to be painted, the wallpaper needs to be replaced, the holes in the walls need to be filled. If it was a BandB fine, but for £80 per night with no breakfast, I'm sorry that's just unacceptable.price too high to the level of the rooms.
