all reviews » For a budget stay near the city centre the hotel was fine. We expected hostel type accommodation ie a backpackers venue and this was accurate We liked the fact that it was in an old church and had a restful night. Inexpensive and really nice facility. It was clean and unusual being an old church / school and so the rooms were retrofits and maybe odd shaped but very spacious. The staff went to great lenghts to help me with finding a solution for charging my laptop and telephone. Very friendly and helpful. I liked the breakfast, very nice. The staff were respectful and friendly. Totally enjoyed my stay. Thanks very much. like the location, the hotel itself was beautiful. the staff were friendly and the rooms were clean. free wifi appreciated can recommend the Chinese takeaway you have leaflets for too. interesting building, nice staff...and the croissants were really nice too. I had to ask where the bathroom was, what time/where breakfast was, the wifi password etc. Kids loved the warren of rooms and stairs and passages - we had three rooms; all on different floors. Inside the cottage kitchen, could have supplied some more utensils as in cutlery, this wasnt a probem as we just took some from the main breakfast room but there was no oven shelves so couldnt cook anything properly unless on the top hob. no shower gel in the bathroom no toilet paper noise a bit loud form other rooms. A little noisy being near the reception, ground floor (Room 5). Neighborhood run down; only take-away within easy walk. The men staff weren't very friendly. The en-suite bathroom in room 16 can be dangerous for slipping. A shower curtain/cubicle should be placed so that the water will not splash all over the place. The sharp edge of the tiles is quite dangerous as well. I didnt like the advertisement that the room has got a tv and toilettries, please dont put it if its not there so that the people will not expect when they come in. the hygiene need to be improved. The bed was uncomfortable. The accommodations are all-but-spartan. Unhelpful, uncommunicative and initially absent. I wandered around the place for well over 10 minutes trying to find someone for reception. Mouldy bread for toast. Small rooms. had to ask for a tv for the room and then you have to move a little portable aerial around. It didn't feel super secure on the ground floor with single glazed windows and poor window locks. Could do with a good clean and a coat of paint. The room, bathroom, cleaningness... Not a shower in the room, being on ground floor was quit noisey. the staff it wasn't clean we booked a double room and we had twin beds. The bed was jammed against the side of the room which was ok for me but would be uncomfortable for 2. The night staff was quite surly (the first guy who checked me in was very pleasant). The wifi was the biggest problem in that it was so slow in my room it just didn't work at all - had to go to the lounge instead. It's also a fair way from Newcastle too. Neither was there a curtain or enclosed area on the shower. The floor was tiled and only a small border stopped the shower flooding the bathroom - health and safety hazard! I was given a room next to the stairs and got woken up around 5:30am by a group of other guests stomping upstairs! Overall, I didn't enjoy my stay and will not be returning!!!. Worst experience ever! - we booked a double and got a twin - the room smelled very badly, as if someone just sprayed the room with a pesticide or spilled a bottle of cheap perfume -> sleeping was almost impossible! - the bedlinen was dirty and did not look like it was changed after the last guests - there was only on shower and toillet on the whole floor for ~10 Rooms - wifi only worked in the "living room" Help yourself and sleep somewhere else!. Stange layout of the twin room. The TV is tiny and impossible to watch from one bed. Dark and dingy room. The breakfast was a waste of time. The layout of the room required was not practical. It had one of the beds away from the wall so that the pillows kept falling off. It had a handbasin in the room but it served no purpose except for brushing your teeth. The toilet was a distance away and the shower was not pleasant. It was also located in a dodgy part of town with no where to get decent meals. The breakfast that was included was less than mediocre and the morning coffee required the use of styrofoam cups. Toilet door didn't close,bathroom smelt vile,no shower curtain,no temp ture control,no early breakfast option. The staff were incompetent, the shower was filthy, there is no kitchen, so no cooked breakfast, and the fire alarm was disabled throughout the building ! I was booked in for 2 nights, but left after the first. Quite possibly the worst place I have ever stayed in.
