Kensington is a very good part of London to stay for a short break. There are of couple of lovely restaurants in the neighborhood, but you have to take a closer look at the menu before you enter, because prices are very different and high prices do not guarantee a good meal. Many parks and interesting places in short distance. Some of the stafmembers where very helpful (doorman, concierge). Restaurants we visited: Sporano's is a very good restaurant if you like Italian food besides pizza and .
all reviews » We benefitted from a very special deal due to refurbishment. The price was superb for the location and the room on the 7th floor was so quiet. It was ideal for exploring this end of London. The seating areas in the foyer were wonderfully relaxing, especially on a wet morning. It was so near the Metro and yet, so peaceful. Plenty of shops and cafes, nearby. Spotlessly clean, lovely bed and cosy and warm. Stayed many times before but not since refurb completed..great location close to Ken High St station, buses to Knightsbridge & West End, all the shops, museums,amenities on the doorstep. So pleased at what they've done..impressive reception/bar area..rooms clean, quiet & space used well. Ideal base. Very good impression from the first steps. Staff very helpful and proffesional. Our third visit to the hotel , each time just a one night stop over whilst visiting the capital. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, my daughter loved the Spa and The bar waiter who made her a wonderful non alcholic cocktail. The bed was huge and the bathroom small but lovely, with great complimentary toiletries. We are already planning our next trip. We stayed in a room at the front side of the hotel which was very noisy: a couple of stafmembers (from an other hotel?) were chatting for over two hours in the middle of the night under our window. Couldn't quite work out the lifts & kept going to where they used to be! One lift by entrance tucked around a corner but not big problem,(there are more!) long corridors & ..Can only think of reasons of stay there really. The lack of small notices as to how to use the plug mechanism in the basin. Also for those not familiar with how to get the lighting system to turn on by using the plastic room key. No notices to help with that. I had to ask at the desk to get both to work. The bathroom was on the small side and we had a few mould spots on the tiles and ceiling, one for the cleaning staff. This was the smallest room we have had out if three visits to this hotel... but we will return. The hotel serves our purpose. Booked 2 superior rooms but one was considerably smaller than the other,the hotel offered to move us on second night there but we stayed as it was next door to our friends. We also ate in the restaurant one evening but the service was poor as it took staff 3 hours to serve our meal and as it was not busy we felt it was far to long to wait. Overall experience good. My only remark is that there isn't free WiFi internet access. The shower over the bath - great shower but a bit dangerous for this 81year old. Being very busy, they gave me the wrong room number of my brother, so had problem reaching him...nothing terrible anyway. All else was perfect. On the whole the staff were efficent and polite. Found our very comfortable room( in the 2000 area) could have had a better system of heating. Paying £13 a day to use a grotty swimming pool. Could have saved money by spending more on the initial outlay, thus not having to spend £30 per day on taxis and £13 on the wretched pool. The subway is nearby saying that but with limited time I couldn't wait. Breakfast too expensive. Double room very small. Hanging space minimal Dining room impersonal - too big and not very luxurious Set menu not very inspiring Hotel impersonal- no leaflets or magazines around. Room was disappointing. Very small, cramped. Bath panel was showing signs of wear and traces of mould on the ceiling. Bar prices were expensive and the quality of drinks was only average. Our room was clean and adequate for a weekend couple with little luggage but would have been difficult had we stayed longer with a suitcase, literally nowhere to put clothes apart from 4 hangers in a wardrobe -no shelves. Really cannot think of anything. I was disappointed in the bedroom. I had stayed twice previously in the hotel and my recollections were of much classier bedrooms. This one was tiny, shabby, worn and in truth could have done with refurbishment. It was very basic. We only got bath mats one day out of three and the first day I had to ask for a second set of towels as two of us were sharing. Also I thought an £8 charge for guests to use the swimming pool when it is an advertised facility is excessive. shower and toilet not working very well but enough usable. The pool was at a price, and wifi was also at a price. Thought that this would be standard in the price of the hotel room. The room was pretty basic and fairly small, not a bad room, but ultimately forgettable. Having to pay £9.95 for 24 hours of wifi access. Guys, it's 2013 and you're trying to be a posh hotel - charging for the internet makes you look mean and out of date. Shower needs a boost as not strong enough. I didn't like the fact that I booked an executive double room and it only had a shower cubicle with no bath. It also didn't look like the picture on the website. Expensive (unless you use booking.com!). poor view from our window, Room 170 on the first floor, overlooking large noisy a/c units or similar, plus overlooked by other rooms both to the front aspect & side (left) aspect. Nothing will stay at the Kensington close again. No free WiFi. Not even a single PC with internet in lobby. lifts are way too small end up waiting a lifetime. aircon made load noises all through the night. nothing. I refused to pay £8 for a swim considering the gym was being refurbished never mind two hour ride on a boris bike cheered me up. that you had to pay extra to use the leisure facilities and also pay extra for wifi. i just expected like most hotels that these came complementary as a guest. the rooms were very small and not the standard of 4 star however, hotel was being renovated. Only one lift (that I could find) next to reception. Other lifts further back in the hotel found later. No ramp to and from reception to the main bar/dining area and room access. Double room was slightly tight on space. n/a. wifi is not free also swimming pool acess and few reception clerks for too much customers f u intend to ask them you have to wait for long time . wifi and swimming pool entrance are not free also too much visitors for a few receptionast which take you soo long waiting to speak to one of them. The quilt was not warm enough. Luckily I had a twin room to myself and used 2 quilts. Hotel would benefit from inclusive pricing for bed/breakfast along with spa being available to residents as part of the package to encourage residents to promote the use of the good facilities. Compulsory use of over shoes for poolside observers to maintain effective infection control measures. Tiny bathroom- fine for one but would have been very cramped if two people had been in room. Long walk to lifts and not very clear signposts how to get around the hotel which is very big. The lifts were always busy. Wifi was not free. Nothing.
