the service we recieved from the staff at the George was second to none, we felt that we were being spoiled, from the moment we arrived to the time we had to check out, nothing was too much trouble, in fact, we did not want to leave and we will certainly be going back to the George Hotel, we cant believe it is a 3 star hotel, we were given 5 star treatment throughout our stay and well done staff.
all reviews » A comfortable contemporary styled hotel, which is a refreshing change in this area. We stayed amid snow and ice and the hotel was warm and welcoming. Good modern cooking in the restaurant if a little overpriced, but as we had booked a 2 nights for 1 offer this more than balanced it out.Everything was spot on, cannot fault this hotel in any way. Staff were friendly and the food was good and the rooms were cleaned and maintained to a high standard. Even though we had a front room overlooking the road, we did not find it noisy. All members of staff I came into contact with were courteous, professional and helpful. However, I was given a beautiful room in its place without any hesitation. I do think the restaurant for an evening meal is extremely expensive. It would have been much better if a light meal could have been put on for those of us who do not wish to eat a lot in the evening or spend a minimum of £26.Lack of hot water on Sat. evening my bath was cool not hot as I wanted . A "light meal" or sandwiches should be available on evenings.Surprised the TV's were so small and only 4 channels. We felt a little under pressure to end our evening in the bar with friends before we were ready, which was a shame as we were celebrating a birthday.The food and drink were rather pricy. The rooms were a little bit chilly. The only criticism I personally have is, that I was disappointed by the lack of real ale on draught at the bar.A little too expensive for what it was. Not really, but the price of dinner was high.TV was small. No mini fridge. But then our room was on a special offer possibly because of a lower room spec.The food was good but could have been more competitively priced.

The George Hotel is located close to Chatsworth House (11.3 km/ 7 miles) and Lady Bower Reservoir, in the centre of Hathersage village in the heart of the Peak District. Ideally located for both leisure and business travellers alike as it is only 20 minutes from Sheffield and has many local attractions and places worth visiting.

The George, as it was originally known, is believed to have been 1st built in the 14th or 15th century. Charlotte Bronte was a regular visitor to the hotel when visiting friends at Hathersage vicarage. She was so taken with the hotel that she used it and its characters as models for her book Jane Eyre.

The hotel is beautifully situated in the heart of the Peak District.
