the evening meal and breakfast was excellent. the service was great and to have 'happy birthday' written in chocolate was a very appreciated gesture.t. The staff were friendly and helpful. Food was wonderful just wish we had had more time to explore the gardens. the location was perfect, the hotel was perfect. only stayed one night but wish it was two. location, peace and quiet, evening meal and breakfast. Not so much a dislike, more an observation: some investment in the fabric of the building (ie stair carpets) will refresh and complement all other attributes. the stay was too short. nothing, liked it all. Steep hill to access!. Main door and bar closed too early. Breakfast was disappointing for £17.50. Cooked breakfast quite small, buffet limited. OJ seemed to be off. Terrace could have done with some shade. Too hot in direct sun. The lack of tv and wifi connection. We had not realised that the door to the hotel was locked at midnight and as we were there to attend a wedding it caused a problem, however another room in the lodge was made available and we changed rooms, which caused a slight inconvenience when we were on a tight schedule to be ready. Guests should be made more aware of this rule especially when booking online. Some areas of the hotel are in need of a little updating. Wifi never worked, wonder if it ever does! Not really suitable for young children as the other guests behave like they shouldn't be there. No real choice other than hotel for dinner as the country lanes are narrow for night driving to nearest place. Expensive breakfast. One morning had to have a cold shower as no hot water. When booked online, Bookinf did not show which room booked! We were wrongly assigned to a uncomfortable room. Narrow road, locals (living close by)there very rude to tourists/ impolite to people from cities. Expensive but poor continental breakfast. Lighting, no proper reception desk staffed. Hotel tired.
