First of all, I would like to say that I definitely would stay at the Glasgow Grand Central Hotel when I return to this wonderful city…especially since I travel by train. How convenient…the hotel is attached to the station. The history of this property is wonderful to read. I was impressed that Gene Kelly, Nat King Cole, Jimmy Durante, Roy Rogers and would you believe that Trigger even stayed in the hotel. all reviews » This was our first visit to Scotland and we could not have had a more phenomenal start. The front desk staff were wonderful and welcoming. Ross and AJ who staffed the concierge desk while we were there were outstanding. We neglected to complete a VIP card for these two gentlemen and should have. We were a little frazzled as we got lost entering Glasgow and Ross was helpful, provided directions to parking, looked after our bags and assisted with ideas for how best to see Glasgow. AJ directed . If you arrive in Glasgow by train, like we did, there is no better place. The location, integrated in the central station, is unbeatable. We stayed one night, on a rather cold late November Saturday. The hotel atmosphere holds a grandeur that follows you up the staircases and through the halls. Our room itself was more modest, but still clean and practical. Breakfast was tasty and with a nice selection. We took the advise in the hotel folder and arrived early, so we got a table at once. The re. Great customer service and had a very friendly man at Check In. Very good facilities and the hotel catered to everyone. We were room only as we had dinner booked elsewhere and did not taste the food however I would love to come back and have a dinner at the Hotel. I thought the Champagne bar was excellent and very fancy, a bit pricey but you pay for what you get if you have that extra bit of cash. Check out wasn't until 12 when the norm is usually 11, that hour does make the difference. Very ce. I had not been gack to my home town of Glasgow for some time. I have lived in London for 26 years. The Grand was everything that I associate with Glasgow- friendliness,humour and nothing was too much bother for anyone. I did write a wee thank you to the Campagne Bar Manager on the back of one of my bills. The Concierge Desk Boys were also lovely. I didn't get all their names - but Gordon and Ross were especially lovely looking after my luggage and making sure that i didn't miss the train to Lo. From entering hotel all the staff couldn't do enough for us, they were so cheery and friendly, made us so welcome. Rooms were lovely decorated and spotless. We had dinner and breakfast in the Tempo restaurant which was excellent and again the staff were so attentative. I have recommended hotel to family and friends, will use this hotel again. I would just like to say my stay was fantastic, I was staying with my mum for her birthday and there were chocolate strawberries and a card in our room from hotel staff which I thought was a very nice gesture and my mum was delighted. She is disabled with arthritis and you gave us a disabled friendly room which was absolutely great for her needs and made her stay even better, also the staff couldn't have been any more helpful.Thankyou so much. The staff were great....and special mention to Graeme Jackson (son of Gordon? who also works there) He could not have been more accomodating and was more than helpful, ensuring he gave us all the help he could - and even managed to source Robbie William tickets for us as we were in a dilemma!!! Way beyond his call of duty. We would like to thank him very much. All staff however were excellent. Very reassuring that good service still exists. The hotel was very comfortable and clean, and it's location on the Central Station complex made it easy to reach by train. It was also within very easy walking distance of the city centre and river. The staff were all very courteous and checking in and out was very smooth. The food in the restaurant was of a high quality and I enjoyed the help yourself breakfast which kept me going all day! I'd recommend the hotel to anybody. Easy access from nearby NCP car park all under cover through the train station and straight into the hotel. Car parking was also subsidised by the hotel by about 50% which was an added bonus. Quick and easy check-in and check-out with various options for checking out. Self service buffet style breakfast and residents late bar which was great for us to have a couple of drinks and chill out after a fantastic concert. 1) Staff (Professional, Polite, Helpful and Courteous ... of course not to forget - very friendly too) 2) Location - There cant be a better hotel than this....superb ! We arrived at 7 30 am, and they were able to give us a room. We hadn't booked breakfast, but you could order it at reception for £10, well below the quoted price on the menu of £17. £10 was good value, as the buffet breakfast was substantial, good quality and variety. The interior of the hotel was great, and we also liked the external floodlighting of the clock tower. For a central location in Glasgow you could not get better. Transport links out of the city ( we spent the day in Loch Lomond) are excellent and all within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. Having the facility to leave luggage safely with hotel staff before check in and after check out gives you the freedom to explore the amazing city of Glasgow with peace of mind. The hotel itself was lovely we had a great stay! The room we had was of average size but was cozy and quite homely! The whole place was very clean. The concierge let us leave our bags with him when we checked out as we were going to do more shopping! And last but not least the bed was very comfy we could have stayed in it all day. We stayed in the hotel for a nice BDay celebs of my friend & eventhough at first we thought Oh No..we stayed at the Central Station which might be too noisy for us but hey..it turned out it was a total comfort, hardly notice any noisiness! My daughter was especially impressed by the swan towel and the chandelier. As we were using the hotel between trains it's location was perfect, making being in transit pleasent. There was a good variety at breakfast all very well prepared and presented. The friendliness of the staff. The huge comfy bed , the bathroom was very spacious, breakfast was excellent, the champagne bar, convenient location, the staff were also very helpful in providing information and directions and although you cant park at the hotel the carpark nearby offers greatly reduced rates for guests. Warm welcome from the reception staff, my husband and I had our room upgraded and what a fantastic suprise, so much space, comfy bed, spacious bathroom. The hotel has been refurbished well whilst still maintaining the style and era of the building. It has spacious corridors with some beautiful features including the full length chandelier on the staircase. The staff are helpful, our room was clean and comfortable, and a decent breakfast buffet was provided. I stayed in the hotel for a wedding that was held in the hotel. Everything from the moment I arrived to the moment I left was fantastic. The wedding itself was perfect from the ceremony to the reception. The food is excellent and the staff very friendly. Location - being in the station is perfect Huge rooms, lovely facilities - I was sharing with my 2 grown sons and we had loads of room, with 2 twin beds and a very comfy double sofa bed. We travel for the football and this is the best room of its type, and for the money, we've stayed in. What a fantastic place to stay! - honestly - straight from the train into the hotel, friendly and efficent staff and bedrooms are brilliant. Fabulous hotel, it is stunning example of victorian grandure brought back to life for the modern era. we didnt get a chance to try the restaurant but if the champange bar is anything to go by you will certainly not be dissapointed. The room was quite chilly, due to limited heating possibilities and windows that did not close properly. I also find it rather surprising that a hotel of this standard still charges extra for decent wireless connection.... N/A. We were not impressed with the room service food....the sandwich that we ordered was hard and verging on stale as though it had sat about for quite some time.....and certainly would not have eaten that at home or given it to any of our friends or family!!!! The meal we ordered later also was disappointing and this was such a pity as everything else was so lovely. While the hotel overall was excellent value for money, I felt the restaurant in the evening was slightly pricey, even allowing for the location. That though shouldn't detract from what was overall a very enjoyable stay. The breakfast fish dishes (kipper & haddock) were £5 extra. The chandelier hanging from the staircase is stunning and we took a photo of it, but it is very dusty. Opening the window in our room could only be done by standing on a chair and giving the window sliders several difficult pulls, the sliders are very difficult to move and the hand pullers are very high if you are not tall. If you want room service it's £5 extra which I think is just a bit much. We also ate in Tempus as the menu sounded delicious, but we were sorely disappointed as the food does not nearly match up to the price! The cocktails however were lovely.....get a raspberry cooler!. The lack of a real piano player. The music in the cocktail bar on Friday night was extremely loud, no doubt to mask the sounds from the railway station. On this note our room overlooked the station (we were on the 2nd floor) and the loudspeaker system started up at 7 am on Saturday morning. I'd specified a quiet room and didn't get one. I would make a point of not having a room situated at that side of the building in future. No parking, but not a major problem with 2 secure multi-storey car parks within a few hundred yards. I thought the style and decor of the reception area,was not in keeping with the grandeur of the hotel ,a real shame. I stayed here for a week and could not fault this hotel. Leaving. Nothing to Not like. Cant think of anything!. The front doors leading into the hotel would slam shut and need proper closers. The hotel needs to expand their room service menu. We wanted to order a late dinner (I believe it was 9 pm) and couldn't get more than a sandwich. nothing. Unfortunately the street noise. Like to sleep with an open window but the noise from outside was quite loud and continuous until the early hours of the morning. Room 257. I would have liked to see some bottled water in the bedrooms although the tap water was, to be fair, quite pleasant to drink. Breakfast was not included and was fairly expensive, but there are plenty of places to eat nearby (though we probably spent almost as much in a posh cafe anyway!). The foyer area could do with a bit of added colour and interest, though it is perfectly adequate for its purposes. NB not the chandelier area but the desk when coming in off the station forecourt leading to platforms. Nothing!. No response from housekeeping when we needed more milk. Bedroom doors are so heavy - impossible to close quietly so woken up by other guests arriving/ leaving rooms. Overcharged for two breakfasts that we hadn't had ( this was subsequently rectified ). Room would benefit from some double glazing as traffic and street noise was noticeable but didn't detract too much from the experience and stay. I found the decor clashed with the lovely historic building. That asian fusion style of interior dominates the current hotel market, but is looking dated, we see it everywhere we travel. We would prefer something that was in keeping the building and said Glasgow. Would have been nice to have a place to put down our luggage, i.e. folding luggage stands. We had ordered a twin room but ended up in a double bed - I was with my Mum so not the worst thing in the world - but a little annoying. Bed was only queen size too so a little small!. Unable to locate remote control for TV. TV was faulty in another room and took a while to get fixed - delay in attendence. Room was not cleaned the first day but was immediately when I requested it later that evening.Breakfast bar was delayed as they have the self service in one small area where everyone converges. If not sticking to a time scale its fine.
