We would recomend the hotel perhaps most for the food they serve it was an exellent service & has to be rated 10/10, The breakfast is exellent & included in the price. The meals served on the menu are well worth a try. The hotel is situated just off the A1 & easy reach to most of Newcasastle. The hotel has been really nicely renovated from an old barn to what it is today.free wifi is a bonus most people want. we arrived early & was allowed to book in earlier than we should have .
all reviews » The location was perfect for our needs. A bus stop outside took us anywhere we wanted to go. The hotel itself was very good and I do not agree with the some of the reviews I have read. You must make sure ON ARRIVAL that reception staff know how much you have agreed to pay through letsbookhotel.com. Our bill would have been based on standard rates until corrected. The hotel has a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere The room was very comfortable Accessibility from the A1 was easy, and very important for our particular needs. Surrounding country and view of the Angel made the brief stay more enjoyable than the usual chain hotels on motorways so we'll certainly stay again when driving north. I booked a single room but was given a small double room which was a pleasant surprise. All staff were very friendly and helpful . Had a meal in the restaurant in the evening and the food quality was excellent and piping hot. Great breakfast too with a good choice of items. Would definitely go back. Loved the setting; the courtyard by the breakfast room; the hotel facilities; able to get an evening meal when we arrived quite late on the Friday evening; close to Newcastle for us to get to the university; bedroom very comfortable (apart from mattress). That Bookings.com had it on a secret deal and it was convenient at the time. We knew about the angel of the north but never thought we would stay so close. Easy to find due to the imposing sculptor. Cooked breakfast was good and location convenient near the Angel of the North. They room we stayed in was a lower one with another above us in the stable block, the room itself was really spacious & clean, the bed was very hard & we both had trouble with a sore back through the night, the matress was very very hard. We could hear the couple above us speaking as though they were in our room above the t.v. they could perhaps have thought more about soundproofing when they renovated the building in the stable block as the walls are thin. When we checked out our bill was based on full rates and it appeared the hotel were unaware of the cost we had been quoted and accepted through letsbookhotel.com. This caused some embarrassment. However, the girl on reception did accept the figure I had been quoted ( I had left the written quote in the car) but I still ended up £8 out of pocket when I checked the bill on the way home. The only problem was the lack of a chair to sit at the desk to do some work that I needed to do. Very minor niggle re electrical points in the bedroom. One for the tv and one for the kettle, so couldn't use laptop/hairdryer/phone charger without unplugging one of them. the only thing I was bothered about was I found the mattress too hard & uncomfortable. The staff didn't receipt our cash payment and it caused a 20 minute delay on checkout. Bathroom a bit of a tight squeeze. It was very hot during my visit and a fan would have been appreciated. My room was over the kitchen, which made it hotter and a bit noisy. All was great. Some of the beds can be quite hard. Televisions in all public areas and piped music, there is no escape!. we had a problem with the food. My evening meal was fine but my partner did not enjoy his, he said that the meat in his pie was tough and cold, also breakfast could have been better. There was not a lack of food but what we got was cold and under cooked. We did pass this information onto reception as we were leaving. TV remote didn't work properly (a minor grumble). Maybe the amount of stairs to rooms should be mentioned on web site. Noisey floorboards in adjacent rooms Poor sound proofing between rooms. It would have been nice to have had breakfast included in price. There were no menus or price list of food from the restaurant in the rooms . There were no ground floor rooms available for my father who is elderly and has health issues. When this stay was booked although ground floor was requested no-one got back to me about the lack of ground floor twin/single rooms. If food was served in the bar area would be more enjoyable, was told I had to move to the restaurant area. The Cooked Breakfast was cold, the scrambled egg was garnished with lettuce (curly endive) and it had cooked green lentils in it (odd). if i have to be picky it would be the creaky bed. Comfortable but noisy if you move to much. Nothing!. Bedrooms very warm, beds hard. N/A. Room 3 at top of stairs was near fire door, was very noisy. Wine was poor quality. Unable to get in when we arrived back late, hadn't been told about the bell at the other door. Very minor as we were spotted and let in very quickly. Nothing we didn't like. Stopped serving evening meal before stated time. Inflexible. Menu limited, no hot weather food ie. salad type choices. all hot dishes. Car park was gloomy, on arrival all the street lights were out. Not very welcoming to a first time visitor. first evening at 18:00hrs - no hot water, however I think this was just a glitch because the rest of the time (2 days) there was plenty of very hot water. The £10 pound breakfast with half a tomato half a slice of black pudding half slice of bacon the rest of the breakfast was not worth the cost the only disappointment that we had over all a great place to stay. Nothing. I have no negative points. The floors where very creaky.i/e room 3 When people came up the stairs it was very noisy. You could hear the people in the next room walking about .Bed was a bit small for two. I would recommend the hotel but not the rooms we stayed in. The only 1 thing that did bother me whilst staying is i couldnt sleep very well. the floor boards all over the hotel were very load. everytime someone went passed my roam the door banged outside my room and the floor boards was very loud. The Shower in room 2 let this hotel down. nothing. Good value. Bed was just a standard double - we are used to something bigger. Could not connect to Wifi in our room - only in the bar area. They didn't have a room for us to get changed for the wedding that was just up the road and the reception that was held in the hotel later,a complete stranger gave us the use of his room for an hour,and considering we had a 2 year old to change wasn't good,the rest of the family group stood in the car park for over an hour!!!!photo's to prove and it was a red hot day not good. I had asked for a room with walk in shower as I have a mobility problem. I certainly couldn't have climbed into our bath/shower and steep stairs to bedroom weren't exactly disabled friendly. The service at breakfast was poor - water in a thermos tepid, loose teabags (not in sachets), no side plate for toast,and there were only 3 tables occupied so not exactly busy! Staff training necessary.
