This was a spur of the moment choice and was excellent on every level. The meal in the restaurant was probably one of the best we have ever had - the chef creates delicious, imaginative and attractive dishes - would have liked to stay longer to try all the choices. The room was comfortable with amazing views over the river. We would definitely like to return in the future. Lovely everything about this hotel. Service from staff was fantastic and make you feel like you were in a 5 star hotel. Had pool and hot tub all to ourselves. All rooms have fantastic views. Food in restaurant and breakfast was excellent. could not fault it. Was excellent value for money. Would have paid double and still of been happy.
all reviews » The location was great very quiet and had just one little pub for a quiet drink and basic menu but what food was on offer was very nice, views were lovely from the hotel, staff very friendly,breakfast very nice the driveway leading up to the hotel was very very steep,we would definitely return, the bed was the best I've ever slept in. The room view, couteous staff, flexibily for meals and food, very comfortable bed, room spacious and clean, excellent en suite, food delicious, extensive and very good wine list, comfortable and friendly lounge, all members of staff extremely helpful, semi-formal yet relaxed atmosphere. 1. very friendly and professional staff 2. rooms very clean, good amenities and modern bathroom facilities. Extremely quiet and peaceful hotel apart from the clay train early each morning, but that was not a problem and added to the Cornish feel of the hotel. We spent 3 days at the hotel and loved it. We had no problem with the drive which is extremely steep, but it would have been better if the bays were more clearly marked and maybe at an angle. The car park is extremely tight for space and larger vehicles, badly parked, made very difficult to get in or out of spaces. I realise parking is a difficult issue at this hotel, but more clearly defined lines and maybe a polite notice requesting sensible and considerate parking might help. Parking can be a bit of a problem. Having to leave and return home!. Nothing. bed on the small side,will ask for bigger next time we will return. At 05.30 both mornings, the level crossing sirens sounded (our room was exactly opposite) as an empty freight train crawled past. Still, it gave us an opportunity to see the sunrise. It was warm and we did have the room windows open, so with them closed it might not have disturbed us. The room was a bit on the small side for the price. The car park is Not, large car user friendly. Difficulty in parking and leaving the car park. Nothing. It rained. Difficult to locate hotel in the dark when first arriving. Smell of damp in corridor to bedroom and smell of damp in bedroom, which resolved with a room spray. Bedroom and ensuite bathroom were small. Breakfast okay, but evening meal wasn't good value for money, being small in size and flavour. Very poor offering for vegetarians. Small car park that's at the top of a very steep incline, with limited turning and parking. We had to park and pay in local car park one night as no space in Hotel car park. 1-Needed a taxi if not driving. Our only comment would be that the duvets, although very cosy for winter were too warm for this time of year. Nothing major but for us the swimming pool was too cold to make swimming a pleasure. Very steep entrance to car park (but it helped to improve my driving skills!). Although the main meals were gourmet they were not to our taste unfortunately we realised too late that had we spoken out sooner we could have requested alternatives. You can hear next doors' neighbour cough, talk, walk ... Very thin walls!. Very steep drive to access. Pool was quite chilly and some distance from the hotel itself. Not an easy approach to the hotel, very off putting. A little too quiet but that may have been the time of year (October) TV in room a waste of space, very small and not working properly. Wifi poor. Room 10 folding shower doors are awkward finger trappers which do not close properly a shower curtain would be more suitable sliding door does not close properly also the toilet roll holder is in an awkward position that it is difficult to access and one can also receive burn from the towel rail whilst doing so. very steep drive! narrow road with few passing places to get there. Very small point lamp in room did not meet superior room standards shade did not match base as was too small. Infrastructure and decoration of the hotel was mixed. As a result didn't have any consistent character. No dress code in dining room. There was nothing that we didn't like - except we couldn't figure out how to turn the bedside lamps on !!!. Nothing. The long walk up the hill. Nothing. Small tv, fires were not kept up , not enough milk for tea and coffee in the room and after dinner coffee was extra ?. Nil. Mini bar fridge was very noisy during the night. Room needed refreshing. Bathroom tiny. Lots of noise from other rooms.
