nice, quiet hotel. Staff was exceptionally nice and extremely helpful. Hotel was clean and centrally located near nice shops and restaurants. Quiet and cosy atmosphere. Loved the open fire in the lounge. Welcoming friendly knowledgable staff.the helpfulness of the staff and location. convenient location and lovely setting. Affordable room in a very clean old fashioned hotel. I would imagine US visitors would love this with all the old beams and quaint nooks and crannies.

I am very neutral about my stay - I was atending a function locally - I would not chose to stay in a hotel - it has to be necessary.central in town aircon worked well. Location. Nothing - except I thought that the price for breakfast was expensive at £15.95. But there's a Sainsburys just over the road and we were there to clean up a house so we ate there !!. Price of Whisky and male dress as above.Only that the heating in the room was a bit hit and miss and there were no drawers, only hanging space. Walls were a bit thin, so neighbouring guests could be heard very clearly.little shabby in places, but I think is under refurbishment. slightly noisy bins in car park. There was only one choice of vegetarian (mushroom gnocchi) for the main meal. I am allergic to mushrooms so was offered gnocchi with vegetables, but I would have enjoyed the meal more if there had been another vegetarian choice on the menu. Bar staff a bit hopeless.the bedroom, without any apparent heating, was too hot. The food and wine in the restaurant was expensive, not very good and a big disappointment. The restaurant was cold and uninviting. restaurant staff at breakfast were not very efficient but very pleasant. Smoking rooms every alternate room mean't that smoke could be smelled in the corridor etc, Smoking rooms should be grouped together away from the non-smoking rooms.Breakfast eggs sat around too long. Better if cooked fresh. Bar and lounge cold. check in took ages there was some problem with housekeeping We arrived around 6 then the girl on the desk phoned to get someone to cover the desk while she checked our rooms to see if they were allocated correctly..they wernt!!This was unnecessary delay and didnt inspire confidence,I had spent time on the phone the previous day checking the rooms.We didi not have hot water on one particular day. The air conditioning in the room was difficult to get just right. A pity about the rather scruffy cobbled courtyard at the front of the hotel which could be made to look much more inviting. The room was far too hot, took a long time for the air conditioning to eventually cool the room, was unable to open the window more tan an inch.No hot water in my room. However I was given the keys of another room and so was able to have a hot shower.. but I had had a cold shave earlier, before complaining about the lack of hot water. rooms were uncomfortably hot at night despite radiators turned off . Curtains needed more substantial hooks for such heavy material. We had to rehang them every time we adjusted the curtains !. The service from the waiting staff wasn't very prompt, even when quiet. breakfast should be included in the cost. The hotel could do with a a makeover - decor rather tatty. No film service or internet access in bedrooms. Plumbing faulty in bathroom -we were transferred to another room promptly. Some of the unrefurbished rooms are definitely in need of attention, and better soundproofing wouldn't go amiss.No heating in public areas, menu poor,staff undertrained. (Did not come up to expectations ) Parking insufficient when functions in progress. They attempted to over-charge me by ignoring the deal I booked through the site.It appeared quite pricey for the quality of the room - quite old fashioned and stuffy.

From guildford

From gatwick airport:
