wonderful hospitality by the owner and his family, a very refined and inviting family. best breakfasts we had in scotland..hot rolls, hotcross buns, dishes of dates, nuts and seeds as well as the hot breakfast and fruits. owner lent us an alarm clock for our early morning departure, called the taxi for us, and invited us to take some fruit and yogurt for the 5am departure The hotel is located on a quiet street in the area called Morningside, a great neighbourhood which has fantastic restaurant.
all reviews » The guest house is run by a very warm and inviting family. The breakfast is excellent, a good variety of cereals, hot food, fruit, yogurt and a seemingly endless supply of tea and toast! We were given great instructions on getting to the main part of the city and the room was comfortable and spacious with a spotless ensuite which was small but perfectly adequate for our needs. Having previously stayed in hostels when I have visited Edinburgh, this made a welcome change and I'm sure we will stay. Very welcoming and accommodating. Room was clean and met our needs. Host went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed as well as booked a tour for us. Will definitely stay here again on our next trip back. Great location as can walk into town for shopping and castle. Short cab ride back with shopping!! Thanks so much for the wonderful hospitality :). It is really wonderful guest house. A room on the top floor was very cold when we arrived, so I recommend a payjamas :) But It got better when we turned on the heating. Overall cleanliness of the room is not so good. Bed very hard so did not get much sleep. Facilities quite outdated. Bed linens were not changed our entire stay. Third floor room was hard on us as we are up in years. Two coin sized bars of soap for our entire stay - 8 nights. Noisy communal showers and toilets on my floor - other guests kept me awake. My shower (room 7) was AWFUL and either dribbled or gushed, boiling hot or freezing cold. Dreadful. No so close to the city center, 15 or more minutes walking to the castle. Staff , Stairs.
