I booked the super suite with a large bed for me and my wife, It was a valentine weekend. We stopped in the Berlington suite which was on the top floor. The hotel looks slightly dated from the outside and the hallways, BUT when we got to our room.....WOW the suite was amazing,clean,light and modern. The staff were helpful and polite. The views from the room of the sea was beautiful. I would definitely book again but I would only stop in the Berlington suite now! :-).
all reviews » The staff were fabulous, very welcoming and we enjoyed the homely and friendly atmosphere this created. We could understand why guests returned to the Expanse year after year. It was also great to see so many extended family groups in the hotel. The location is excellent. Fabulous sea view. No category above to suit our group - family group - 2 adults over 50, one over 70 with limited mobility. Location excellent for beach and walks towards flamborough head . Easy flat walk along the promenade to the harbour Breakfast excellent , didn't try evening meal Nice bar area and lounge with a few books of interest to read ( nice touch ) also the bar downstairs is connected so we often brought some drinks up from there to the ' quite ' lounge. Quiet location even though it is on the seafront. Enjoyed a few beverages and a meal in the Marine bar attached to the hotel. Breakfast was an excellent selection from cereal and toast to a full English (there was even choice of locally caught fresh fish). Overall an excellent stay made even better with the beautiful morning we woke up to. I love the relaxing atmosphere of the Expanse.There is no pressure from Staff you can come and go as you please.The views from my single room were just stunning.It is, for me, a place to relax and unwind from a stressful job.I will continue to visit the Expanse for the rest of my life. My single room with balcony overlooking the sea was so comfortable and fully equipped for an overnight stay. The full English breakfast was excellent and I especially loved the Bridlington pork sausage! The staff were so friendly and helpful and I would definitely stay here again. The Hotel was lovely, breakfast delicious, staff very friendly and the room was clean and very comfortable. Dave especially deserves a mention as he went out of his way to help us when our car had been blocked in and we could not get away on schedule. The location was superb. Loved the "Poirrot" feel to the hotel with the vintage style furniture. Dining room was inviting and the food delicious. Would certainly recommend this hotel. Staff extremely welcoming and helpful. Staff were excellent in all ways and are the Hotels best point. The food is also good. I used the hotel whilst visiting the area to study the sea birds at Bempton Cliffs. For this type of holiday the Hotel is ideal!. we had a problem with our room on arrival but it was dealt with swiftly and we were offered an upgrade at no extra charge. Friendly staff and a very good breakfast. Overall an enjoyable stay. Would stay there again. The rooms were well furnished. Bathroom facilities excellent, very well appointed. The sea views were very good from two windows. The restaurant menus had a good choice and the service was efficient and friendly. The staff were warm and friendly and had a lovely sense of humour. The bar at the side of the hotel has great atmosphere with friendly staff and visitors. The live band were excellent. Upgraded from a suite to luxury suite due to work on the 1st floor. a quality establishment with excellent food & service. We will definately return when next in Bridlington. You had to park your car down side streets as you were not allowed to park outside the hotel as pay and display. Was not to bad for us on this occasion as it was quiet but in busy times might be a struggle. The balcony overlooking the bay from the lounge bar needs updating and cleaning The downstairs men's toilets need the same ! A couple of hours with some dettol bleach and a cloth will sort it. No hotel parking facilities although you can park in the surrounding streets for free. The freezing cold weather!!!!! LOL. We paid for the underground parking and found that someone had parked in front of the garage blocking our car in and we were held up for quite some time while trying to find out who the car belonged to. The Manager did contact the Police and eventually it turned out to be a member of the Hotel staff who had done this. We were very angry about this and would have thought our parking money would have been refunded but the Manager and Dave did deal with it professionally and as best as they could. room 47 was a tad on the cool side despite the radiators on and the fan heater. Bathroom did not encourage bathing as it too was cold. Decor tired,. The Hotel, inside and out, needs a bit of decorating and TLC. The weather was exceptionally bad during our stay, the east wind was blowing continuously, because of this we had to complain about the vent in the bathroom and the draft from the bedroom window. these were both rectified immediately by the hotel staff. Nothing to mention. The welcome was not good-receptionist on duty was dour and miserable. The outside frontage of the hotel was grubby ( a good sweep was necessary) the benches were awful. The pillows on the bed were quite frankly smelly. The dining room would benefit from some form of air-conditioning. The corridors leading up to the room were in need of decoration. Shower head was damaged. It was changed straight away but it should have been found before-hand. Bedside clock/radio/alarm did not work. Trouser press did not work. The bed was a little hard. Our room needed upgrading, but this is now happening apparently. I liked it all but maybe a little redecoration needed ?. Nothing to report. Rooms were a bit dated, threadbare carpets, lumpy bed, but overall it was o.k. Bed was Comfy but very squeaky. Looks tired re furnishings - could do with updating whilst maintaining the original features reception staff po faced icy and lacking charm. under the weather conditions during our stay we found it was a bit far out of the centre. Extremely poor disabled access and tiny lift. Very limited health and safety- I doubt they meet regulations!!! For example lack of evacuation chair on stair well. They were very busy and had quite a few problems with breakfast, but were very apologetic. The lift is far too cramped for such a busy facility and needs a larger replacement. The room we were in which was No. 12 the shower did not work - it was too hot in fact scalding and could not be adjusted. The last time I stayed in this hotel the radiator/towel rail burnt me. This time the first room we were given was cold - we were then moved to room 12 which was fine with the exception of the shower. tiny lift. small reception area. this got very crowded when booking out as people tend to mingle by the revolving doors. The room we were in (36) was fine. The only problem was the towel rail in the bathroom which you could not adjust and by accident my husband burnt himself when getting out of the shower. I and my wife found everything ok. Run down 70's 80's decor. They are redecorating bit by bit. Should close a floor at a time. I had to walk down stairs in my suit with walls wet with fresh wallpaper paste! Restaurant is also 1970's, including Prawn Cocktail! Cuisine needs complete rethink. The Expanse's 4 Star rating is hard to justify. No problems. As mentioned by others, lift is a little snug but I guess the answer is to be patient and not try and get the whole family in....
