The hotel was in a great location, we stayed there not only for that, but also because it looked great for the money. We weren't wrong, the facilities are excellent, staff very helpful, and the room we had was exceptional, much better than your boring Premier Inn. As we had our 1 year old with us, we'd requested a cot, this hadn't been communicated to the hotel via letsbookhotel.com, however the staff were more than happy to source one and brought it to our room within minutes, very impressed .
all reviews » Ive stayed in many hotels in the centre of Birmingham but for me this hotel outshines them all for £99 you get a great room in the centre of Brum near the shops, near the nightlife without the Noisy sleepless night of Hyatt Crown plaza and Jurys Inn. I cannot fault this place if it is a touch more dearer than some other hotels you will only regret not paying to stay here. Hotel was excellent,very clean,very friendly staff & it was central in Birmingham,i was able to walk to all my Engagements,so no taxi fares,& the staff were more than happy to give me directions,food was very good quality with excellent service. No complaints whatsoever & would definitely stay there again !!!. Proximity to Mailbox and Car park are excellent. Rooms are chic and of a very good standard. We chose to have breakfast in the Mailbox in a cafe rather than pay the £19.95 per person for Brunch! Enjoyed staying here as much as the Radisson but at significantly less. I got this hotel in a secret deal so paid a very good price for two nights, everything was great and a Starbucks on site just put the cherry on the cake! If it were to come up again at a similar price I would definitely stay here again. contemporary design with all mod cons & free wifi everywhere. good breakfast room & selections. excellent location with (pay) car parking next door. very close to rail & bus facilities and huge array of shopping options. Love the standard of the rooms, even though it hasn't been decorated in a while it is still pristine and very clean, staff are usually excellent too! The location is paramount no more than a 10 min walk from anywhere!. I liked the rooms and the toiletries in the bathroom are lovely. The Manager is really nice and goes over and above to sort out issues which were miner. I really enjoy staying here, hence the many bookings. Excellent Hotel. The bed was a little hard, maybe a mattress topper would have helped but it was ok. No negatives really, on occasion reception gets very busy and more staff wouldn't go a miss on check in and check out. I don't like the idea off not having a full English breakfast in the rooms, there is only a continental breakfast available, which is cold foods not a fan so leave hungry :(. Parking is quite expensive. Decor is getting a bit jaded!!!!. The girl that made our drinks in the Mal Bar was obviously quite new and we waited 20 minutes for 2 cocktails. The lack of choice for vegans on the restaurant menu. The fact that the room was advertised with a cd player but there wasn't one there when we arrived. room key card deactivates if you put it next to your mobile. Could see wear and tear in the room. We had a couple of trays for room service and there wasn't enough table space in room. Would have been helpful if a trolley was brought in as other hotels do. Did find someone else's sock in the room, don't think cleaners had checked properly. Trays hadn't been collected from last night till we had checked out 12pm. No major negatives. Nothing. It's a very noisy hotel because a lot of the clients are there to party! We were there on a relaxing trip but sleep didn't happen. The hotel does look a tad tired and I think could do with a touch up in areas. I was not as impressed as I thought I would be for it being a 'Malmaison'. mini bar too expensive. There was no internet for the duration of my stay, so could not catch up on work. Staff are really sweet but if there are issues or things are not right, they don't offer any recompense unless you complain. For a returning visitor there are no incentives and up grades you have to pay for at your own cost. It does need to treat there loyal stayers a bit more. Repeat stays makes them money. We took advantage of an early eating deal and was pushed in a corner and well treated like second class in the Resturant - I think if they would have checked with the hotel and found out that we had upgraded then we should not have been give such a bad table Will not eat at the Resturant - food was good and our waiter tried - but the way we were treated - I would not recommend it to anyone. Surprised room did not have a safe for valuables. The lighting in the corridors and lifts was very poor! I am sure that this is a "style" choice - but I just found it very dark and gloomy, and actually quite oppressive in the lifts. My daughter became ill and we needed to catch an earlier train home and the staff couldn't find our 2 bags because the attendent who logged them in only did one slip. They were eventually found, but if the staff member had shrugged her shoulders at me one more time I would have exploded! We only made our train with 3 minutes to spare. There was mascara on the bedding, couldn't control the air con in the room properly also the bathroom floor was dirty. all was good. - Restaurant of the hotel is not as good as it looks and will not recommend it. room walls a bit thin, noisy. Nothing really - breakfast was slightly pricey but worth it. When we checked in the staff did not smile or make any attempt to have a polite conversation, despite us trying. We asked at the booking stage for a quite room and we got a room just next to the lifts, very noisy on saturday night. The breakfast experience was mad….service was extremely slow…and gave implosion of chaos. Breakfast in the morning was very noisy as we sat by the coffee making area which was very busy with staff coming and going also breakfast was not the best as it was dry think it is plated up and kept warm and I would expect a fresh breakfast for this type of hotel. Being asked for a £50 deposit on top of what we'd already paid 'in case of damages or mini-bar use' I wasn't explained this when booking. I'd asked for payment to be taken prior to arrival as I would not have the company credit card with me. This hasn't been done despite the confirmation from booking .com stating the payment would be taken on day of booking. So I had the usual debate at check in as this happens a lot. It would be nice if guest could have a larger discount on the mailbox car park but I have paid more for city centre parking so it wasn't too bad. You don't mind paying when you have just stayed in a great hotel. Little niggles: Bed not made properly on the first night, had to ask for body lotion, shower screen didn't stop bathroom getting covered in water, a few issues with breakfast. Most were resolved though. Had some noisy fellow quests on the evening, running up and down the hallways. Thankfully they settled down by midnight. Breakfast was awful. The worse £30 I have ever spent. In addition the other receptionist at check out time tried to recharge us again for it. Luckily the lady that checked us In was there to to help. Parking breakfast and mini bar expensive. Your staff need a lesson on how to carry out customer service I was appalled at witnessing a male manager telling off another member of staff at the point of check in not the best arrival! I very negative light! He was then again rude when we checked out he needs a lesson on attitude courtesy and behaviour with staff. The mattresses are awful! Other reviewers have mentioned they hard/firm and I don't mind a firm bed normally. To give you an idea of comfort level. The mattress was one step up from sleeping on the floor! Didn't sleep well at all. Wont stay at this hotel again purely on this basis. The noisy people in room 427!! But we got compensated for it all. Needs clarification on the costs/locations of car parking ideally in the Mailbox under the hotel. Some day rate information would be useful and consession information if applicable. Nothing. Poor waiter service in bar one evening, and didnt feel he was friendly at all.
