We stayed for a wedding. The reception staff were brilliant and the hotel is set in lovely grounds. Our room was fantastic and much better than we had ever imagined!!. friendliness and excellent service of both the staff and facilitiesMeals were of excellent quality. master of ceremonies excellent. bedroom good size, very clean and nicely furnished. good selection of continental food at breakfast.highly recommend this hotel.

(we stayed in the new annex bit which was very pretty on the outside, modern inside..no complaints). we were booked for a standard double room and when we checked in we found out that we had been put into the bridal suite at no extra charge. On arrival, we found that we had been allocated a room on the 2nd floor, with no access by lift, despite having advised the hotel in advance of my wife's inability to manage stairs. Reception took prompt action to rectify this, and found us a large room with all amenities we required. We appreciate that errors like this can occur and the hotel staff dealt with the matter pleasantly and efficiently. It was a warm traditional hotel, with a "good feel". Setting and the building was charming. Price of drinks was quite high. full english breakfast though adequate wasnt great...cheap beans and scrambled eggs tasted a bit funny!!!. No I shall return again probably with friends. smaller than average bath... the bar shut at 12am for residents. room was a bit cold. There were no negative points which interfered with the enjoyment of our stay. cost of meals in restaurant for grade of hotel was high. They let them down with minor details,like no glasses for fruit juice.Forgot the bread rolls,ran out of the wine we liked. We didn't eat there, having looked at the menu. The prices are astronomical - you can walk a few hundred yards to the Strutt Arms and get a delicious meal for two (including a bottle of wine) for £19.Thought the price of food was quite expensive. Being charged twice as much on arrival. It added confusion as we were told you always add 150% to the credit card. We though we were being overcharged. We were not but could have done without the confusion immediately on arrival.Our bathroom could have been a bit cleaner and better supplied with loo roll! though it only took one request at reception and one phonecall to get one roll!! The hotel restaurant was expensive so we didn't eat there but breakfast was excellent. Restaurant service was quite poor.Bath was a corner bath with overhead shower. The shower curtain was positioed poorly so there was no room once drawn. some local beers would be nice. To many staf from other country's. £2.00 charge for bringing breakfast. They took £20 from my credit card without asking permission. service at breakfast was a little disorganised. The food was very basic, from a packet and over priced. Cheaper and better in local pub. Noise in the first room we were given. We were moved to another room for the second night.There was not enough staff. The staff that were there were very pleasant, but just didn't have time to do everything. On two separate occasions a request for hot water to accompany tea and a request for a pot of coffee, was not fullfilled. Breakfast was a disaster, waitng for eggs to be cooked, waiting for bowls, waiting for toast, waiting for tea/coffee, a lot of waiting.
