everything - exceptionally friendly staff, comfortable room and excellent food !! Also perfect location as the decription on website states - everything is on the doorstep of the hotel to enjoy the lovely historic town of Belper - excellent designer outlet there too!! Just loved it and definitely going to go back when my husbands wallet is full of money again :-). All the lovely friendly staff who looked after us so well and hence made for a very pleasurable weekend break.

The window in room needed a net curtain.Very warm and sticky in the restaurant - no aircon or ventilation. I don't know what it is about hotels, but everywhere I stay, the toilet seat is always loose - a minor thing I know, but anoying non-the-less (and a potential HandS hazard), otherwise all else was well.Cooked breakfast arrived cold, no towel rails/toilet roll holders, poortv reception. Shower didn't have alot of hot water although the hot water tap in the sink was very hot.The plumbing was atrocious and made an awful noise which kept me awake. Shower in our room was poor, not enough pressure and wash basin in room was cracked!!. Only one set of towels in a double room. This was quickly dealt with when we reported it to staff. As per some reviews of this hotel on the internet, the bathroom had odours from the kitchen (possibly using the same extraction system?) and the TV reception wasn't great.worst nights sleep for a long time due to excessive temperature in room despite electric fans. Our 'special room' overlooked a petrol station. My room was far too hot! (The hotel knows my comment and there were unusual weather conditions). V poor water pressure. We were the last guests at breakfast and the staff were too busy clearing up to ask us what we wanted. £125 for a double room was very expensive for what it was. View of the petrol station. With a room overlooking the courtyard the continual noise from the extractor fan was irritating particularly during the night.Room very hot and noisy over disco. Not happy with the room we were originally given - we were moved.The wedding party spread right through the hotel - assumed it would be in allocated rooms, so bar crowded and noise at night although allocated room that should have been away from wedding.we did not like the restuarant food.

The Lion Hotel is situated in the centre of one of Derbyshire's most historic towns, Belper. A former coaching inn but with a contemporary twist, right on the edge of the Peak District. This makes the hotel an ideal base for exploring heritage attractions such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the Deryshire Dales. The hotel provides an extremely high level of comfort and service. Please note that this is a non-smoking hotel.

Travelling information

Belper is located 15 minutes by road from Derby and 30 minutes from Nottingham. Belper is 15 - 20 minutes from the M1, exit from junction 25, via A52 & A6 or 26, via A610. The hotel is located in the centre of town on the A6 and a few minutes walk from the railway station (change at Derby for Belper trains). Belper may also be reached from the A38 approaching from the south west. Leave the A38 at the A6 junction on the northern outskirts of Derby. Follow the A6 the northwards through Duffield and Millford to reach Belper in 7 miles.
