Well what can I say my Husband and I had the most amazing break at The Residence and the friendly staff made it so relaxing. The quality of the hotel is amazing and the food is absolutely fab!!! Definately going to book to stay again. Great hotel in quiet location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was very cozy. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. Atmosphere very relaxed.

Begin the day in the kitchen, where you watch the chef prepare your breakfast. Using organic, locally sourced ingredients you are free to bend the advertised times and enjoy it whenever you want to.

Snacks can be prepared for you whenever you desire them - Dom Perignon and chips at 03:00 will be no problem at all! Alternatively, The Residence enjoys links with several of the city's top restaurants, who be able to deliver a meal directly to you.

The Dining Room is dominated by a central 12 seat dining table designed by retro-antique-salvage artist Rod Donaldson. Perfect for a business meal, a party or a very big table for 2.

Hotel information details

The Residence began life in 1796 as Ormond Lodge, part of a local estate. During its existence, it has reputedly been one of the homes of exiled Emperor Haile Selassie during the 1930s.

Several public rooms await you, including a very traditional library, where deep red walls and dark mahogany furniture complement oak floors. Lots of books, an internet access point, sofas, desk, study table and chairs and sumptuous soft furnishings are all on hand.

The Conservatory operates as a bar and occasional brunch room. When the weather is right sun streams into this stunning area, which seats 24 as a bar or 14 as a meeting room. Full audio-visual equipment, including a giant pull down screen and sound system, as well as a heated paved outside deck for the warmer times.

The garden is also available with its beautiful Italianate terrace with boule piste, croquet lawn, 2 fountains and a stunning summer house, which offers a cosy escape from the world.

Information about the area

At The Residence you are not far away from the historic architecture and culture that has made Bath the famous city it is today. Numerous museums are within easy reach, not to mention the world renowned Roman Baths. The choice of restaurants, bars and pubs is superb, the shopping is good and to cap it all off you can now bathe in the spa waters once again at the new Thermae Bath Spa. Bath is an ideal centre to stay while you explore the local countryside - Stonehenge, Avebury, Glastonbury, Wells, Cheddar Gorge, Bristol and the Wye Valley are all easy day trips from Bath.

Museum of East Asian Art (1.4 km / 0.9 miles) - visitors will find ceramics from all the countries of East Asia, bamboo carvings and one of the most comprehensive Chinese jade collections in the UK. There are also fine examples of metalware and other decorative arts.

Theatre Royal Bath (2 km / 1.2 miles) - now more than 200 years old, the beautiful Georgian Theatre Royal offers a year-round programme of top-quality drama, comedy, opera, dance and frequent Sunday concerts.

Roman Baths & Pump Room (2.5 km / 1.5 miles) - Britain's only natural hot spring, bringing health and vitality to Bath for over 2000 years. The adjoining Pump Room is a fashionable Georgian meeting place that remains the social heart of Bath.

All bedrooms at The Residence have been individually designed with a subtle and cultured touch. Every room has central heating and opening windows. There is no air conditioning anywhere because the Bath' stone maintains an equable temperature year round. The bedrooms are also equipped with the most imaginative goody box and thoughtfully stocked room bars. Each room has national land line calls included in your rate.

Travelling information

By Car:
From the A4 (West of Bath):
- Enter Bath via the A4 (Bristol Road) and proceed until it becomes the A36 (Lower Bristol Road).
- Turn left to cross the bridge at the 1st opportunity (A3064, Windsor Bridge Road).
- Turn right onto Upper Bristol Road.
- Take the 3rd left onto Park Lane Road and proceed to the end.
- There is a mini roundabout by the junction of Weston Road and Park Lane Road. The Residence is located through the gates on the roundabout.

From the M4:
- Exit the M4 via junction 18, for the A46 towards Bath and Stroud.
- Stay on the A46 until you reach London Road Roundabout. Take the 3rd exit onto London Road West.
- This road becomes London Road. Take the 2nd exit at the traffic circle to stay on London Road.
- Bear left onto Roman Road.
- Take the next right onto Lansdown Road.
- Take the 3rd left onto Montpelier, and continue through Julian Road, Crescent Lane and Weston Road.
- There is a mini roundabout by the junction of Weston Road and Park Lane Road. The Residence is located through the gates on the roundabout.
