The setting is fantastic - every Austin fan's dream. Close to everything but in a quiet location with great views. The hotel itself is beautiful, you walk through a discrete regency front door into a wonderful combination of history, functionality and good taste. It is larger than you'd expect set around an open courtyard with scented gardens, a luxurious bath house and dower house containing the restaurant and bar. The bedrooms were spacious, extremely comfortable with all the touches you'd.
all reviews » Treated like royalty. Very welcoming staff. Our room was even upgraded as special birthday treat. Card and choccies left as a surprise in room also. Beautiful room with garden view. Delicious cocktails in evening and lovely breakfast in morning. It will be even nicer when the Dower House has been fully refurbd and open again. Fabulous memorable stay. The staff was extremely polite, but friendly and enormously helpful, nothing was a problem. They made our dog very welcome and even provided his bed and bowls free of charge. The hotel is pure luxury and my view of heaven staying in a hotel. The food was lovely. Also to have use of a spa was another lovely feature. The Spa and treatments were lovely and the therapies good value for money, the hotel is very informal and relaxed and staff very approachable and accommodating at all times- including 3 am when I couldn't sleep! The bed was like sleeping on a cloud! The comfiest mattress ever!!! Peaceful location too. Great location. Able to walk to all sites & tourist points of interest. Very friendly staff which were most helpful, even making good recommendations for eating out in town. Didn't have to use the car once! Even left the car at hotel on our day of check out to make the most of our last day. as it was the venue for our daughters wedding with a nights stay it was one of the best experiences we have had from the warm welcome to the amazing upgrade room we got to the super friendly staff to the incredible food and thank-you for making it the perfect day for our daughter. They handled some sticky tourist situations with calm and courtesy; impressive. The grounds and back garden were immaculate. The hotel was historic and the location was perfect! Our room was warn and needed wallpapering and freshening up but that's not scheduled until next year. So that's the only part I was disappointed with. For the money you pay I would have liked our room to be of a higher standard but completely appreciate that they are in the process of doing this. The hotel gave an impression of faded grandeur and the room we stayed in (number 8) was badly in need of refurbishment. The bathroom was particularly poor. The quality of the room did not warrant £350 per night. I didn't have enough time or the budget to stay longer!! Lovely to be spoilt... The bed on wheels that move,s when you turn in bed, slight noise for the road but workable. No Tea and Coffee makings in the room, would have been a nice touch. Construction is going on and we were not warned. Noise started after we woke up but still would have liked to have been warned. Parts of the hotel are in need of a refurb, but I believe this is about to happen. We look forward to visiting again. Breakfast service and late might service seemed unhappy and kept mistaking mistakes with the order. Some staff at night did not speak English which was a difficulty. room was beautifully laid out and decorated, but looked 'tired'. shower was useless and noise from upstairs room, and people trying to open bedroom door to corridor, was annoying. Food was pricey, and was not tempting enough to try. There was no tea/coffee in the room but if you asked for it, they would provide a hospitality tray. The bathroom had no where at all to put toiletries - I had to move in a table from the bedroom. There was no mirror in the bedroom for hair drying. Nothing. Limited by being Grade 1listed building. Occasional noisy plumbing. The rain. bathroom was little bit small. Only fault no tea and coffee making facility in room!. That we had to leave... Not having tea & coffee making facilities in the room, although these were provided when requested. Spa facilities not finished?. Twin room booked was prepared as a double when we arrived. We were offered a bottle of champagne which compensated for any inconvenience. The rude guests that you have, that were rude to your staff. None. Nothing. I liked everything!. The fact we were not told when we booked it was under refurbishment so we couldn't use the Spa which is why we booked in the first place. There was no atmosphere in the bar or dinner area. No tea & coffee facilities in rooms Cold in restaurant Lack of veg with main meal. The extra bed in the room was quite uncomfortable. Room was fine, bathroom a bit pokey and extractor fan was noisy and didn't turn off. Service in dining room was rather slow. Didn't think the cleaning staff should be vacuuming right outside dining rom while guests having breakfast. one or two areas seemed a little tired, but I understand a major refurbishment is imminent. Lack of vegetarian option as standard for breakfast.price of drinks too expensive.
