We spent a lovely 5 days in Istanbul in the summer. We stayed at Hotel Fatih which is at a great location. It's just a 20 minutes walk or a 10 minutes bus ride from Eminönü, which is one of the centers of the city. The bus stops right in front of the street where the hotel is located. The personnel is extremly nice: when we got there the receptionist told us we booked a tiny room which wouldn't be enough for us, and he gave us a bigger room for the same price. all reviews » Good hotel, nice people. Area is not central, but it's better cause there are small restaraunts and cafes nearby with better prices than in the centre of the city. Also the small food market is close to the hotel, where the prices are much better than in Sultanahmet or grand bazaar. For comparing, prices for pistachios at grand bazaar where 88 liras/kilo, and on the market we bought same pistachios for 23 tl per kilo!!! The supermarket is nearby, and bus stop where you can catch 90b bus that go. An easy arrival by Metro 1 from the airport, it took only 30 minutes to 'Aksaray' and 5 min for a slight uphill walk. Really nice welcome and got the room on the second floor, extra bed and comfortable hard mattresses. The hotel is located in Fatih, many sights are close and you are right in the middle of Turkish living, many shops, definitely more than one kebap restaurant, whatever you need, you will find it. The staff is friendly and is able to speak different languages. I was in this hotel for 4 nights. And what I can say is that. Personal - amazing, allways can ask help and advices. Good value for money, friendly and helpful staff, was a good base in a local quiet area close to the bus stop for travel to anywhere in Istanbul with ease. I would stay there again and love the two local kebab places who serve the original Turkish food. Very friendly staff, rooms are clean and absolutely ok for the price (I paid 25 tl per night)! There is only one toilet / bathroom (per floor) which is to be shared with other guests. But still clean, and for the money you spend its absolutely ok. - Friendly Staff - Always someone speaks English - perfect money/ quality value - Clean - close to the Emnyet Fatih metro station - close cheap food shops around the hotel area (Portakal recommended). It was quite good considering the cost of the room. No significant problems, although location may be a bit far for some people if you prefer to be closer to the livelier areas. The stuff is very friendly. The rooms are clean and cosy. The location is ok. Infront of the entrance you can find one of the best places to eat turkish food in istanbul. Staff is like one big friendly family. Nice atmosphere. Location is very good, busses nearby takes you to the rest of Istanbul (ask for a Istanbul card). Enjoyed a lot , a home away from home. Economy room is very small but clean. The stairs and the sharing bathroom. I wish conditions were much better, but they were compensated by low price. The floor could use a vacuum. When I came, my reservation was rejected because manager prolonged the room for another guests & there were no room for me, though they called my name & knew that I was coming that day & I think it is normal practice over there, so I would advice to confirm your reservation by calling them up! I got the stuff room for the first night, next day I got another one-better than I booked, so it was nice. The hotel is very old & not so much clean. Dusty floor, curtains etc. The stairway is like a spring which is hard to climb when you are returning from an exhausting trip and tired. Really small rooms. Impossible to open a bag on it. Stairs on entrance also really hard to climb and bedroom door was hard to close and open. It was a bit far to get to convenient public transit, but if you don't mind walking it isn't a problem. The room was cold (they need to crank up the central heating). Very small room (economic double room fits only 2 single beds and small desk). It is a bit far from city center and people around the neighborhood had no knowledge of English language whatsoever. Nothing much to do or see around that area so i always had to spend most of my day somewhere else. Not clean, My room was too small, but i find out that they have rooms bigger than my room. The room was very small,ok for couple of nights but not for a week. Not as advertised exactly. Water in toilets not working!!! Cold water for shower!! Bad smell in the room Room too cold No safe box in the room as indicated. I paid in cash, but was told that it is not paying. I was told not to book even system. It does not get a receipt, could not be demonstrated. It was a terrible response. Everything. i did not like the location it was very under my exceptations. sorry. Bad organisation. When we arrived our room was not ready yet. We had to wait and had to change rooms the next day.
