Reopening in April 2018 after extensive refurbishment and surrounded by a quiet garden with a terrace outdoor chess and morris, this youth hostel in the centre of Bern is just a 5-minute walk from the Swiss Parliament and the Aare River. Free Wi-Fi is available. Guests can chose between rooms with private or shared bathrooms. A music box, a TV, table tennis and tabletop football can be enjoyed in the common area. A washing machine and a dryer are also provided. A varied breakfast buffet is served every morning. Lunch and dinner buffets are available on request. The Bern Youth Hostel is just a short walk from the popular Marzilli public swimming pool on the river, and the Oktogon hammam and spa is located across the street.

Friendly staff, good localization, 7min from central station and the main market street. Clean sheets/bedroom. Dinner service and breakfast were very generous and appreciated. Rooms were very clean and the staff was friendly. Breakfest was also great. I would recommend this hostel to all backpackers. The canteen and terrance are spacious and impressive. It was easy to find the location. The reception staff are helpful.

Some rooms are close to parking sites and common areas, so you can hear sound of cars and other guests don't care at all about making noise when you're trying to sleep. Not many places to recharge the mobile batteries. Poor wifi too. No private bathroom possible. Our room is tiny. It was hard to walk around in the four-bed room. Badroom: Shower-only 3 for men, it was not the cleanest. Nothing. The hostel is at the bottom of a hill that you will probably climb a lot while going into the city, but it's climbing country so I guess a few giant staircases are to be expected. the dinner price is high. The hostel put 5 of us in what should have been a 4 person room. It was so tight no more than one person could stand up in the room at once and there was no room for baggage. The building we were in only had one men and one women toilet which were very dirty because so many people had to use only one toilet. Cleanliness of common areas was not super. I have stayed in many Swiss youth hostels and overall this hostel is very below average. -Lack of facilities (1 electrical socket in 20 ppl room, 3 showers/2 toilets per gender per floor [around 50 ppl]) - Unstable internet. Small rooms nô elevator, quintple room was tiny. It was a hot day but the top floor was oven like. Sparse room needs updating, even for a youth hostel. You have to pay 6CHF more If you don't have membership Card. overall very few plugs even in dining room. there is only one plug in the room. Wi-fi only in public area. -Not enough toilet -Extra charge for non-member(though it's mentioned) - Too expensive. The place is not easily to find. The shower room is not really comfortable to use. Although the location is near the station but there's difficult to find. The roads to the hostel are hardly. There are some no good smells around the lower level. The wifi is not available in all areas only in lounge. Add either 36 Euro, or 6 Euro/night, to the price that you are paying unless you have an ih membership. They never mention it on the website and just pop up this ridiculous charge at check-in. The rooms were just ok, by no means nice. There was also a group of thirty 14-year- olds who were really loud. Did not have a pleasurable experience here at all. Felt like I was being had for my money at every opportunity. It is unacceptable that they charge more for those who are not youth hostel members without telling them in advance. They showed me some message in german that I didn't understand and said "look here it says that". Sheets were so dirty! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
