The best possible location at a great price. 2 short blocks away from Plaza del Sol square and metro station. Very nice situated in the centre of Madrid, close to the metro "opera". Shops and diner places nearby.
It's a small room (not to small) but if your main goal is to discover the city, who needs a bigger one? The shower was great.
The personnel is realy friendly and speaks sufficient english.

Rooms were small but cosy, and with plenty of space to put your luggage/stuff, big tables (if you want to use your laptop etc), minifridge. With the windows closed there is no problem with the noise from the busy street on which it is located.

The location of Hostal Gala is excellent, a 5 minute walk from Gran Via and Puerto Del Sol. The staff are super welcoming and friendly, always ready to help and advise on where to go and what to do. The hostal is also kept very clean and the cleaning staff are very friendly and helpful as well. Although the rooms do not have safe deposit boxes, security and leaving passports/money behind was never a cause for concern. This is a place I would recommend and stay at again!

Maid rearranged room for us after first night to better suit our needs(2 twins beds to a pseudo-double) and tidied our sloppy shoes.
Ultra clean. Like spotless. Pressed sheets.
I found this property with a price filter but will make a bee line there next time.

On the oposit side is a supermarket on the underground level from a shopping mall (you can find here glutenfree products too) and nearby a lot of little restaurants. The location was excellent and the hostal was really easy to find. We arrived before the check-in time and were given access to our rooms which was great.
