Lovely hotel, good location, 20 mins from the centre, so close by butquiet. Facilities (pools/gardens/spa/rooms) were excellent, stafffriendly and helpful. Making it a really pleasant stay. It was mybirthday, and the Management organised a free bottle of cava and somestrawberries - nice touch. Definitely recommend this hotel to others. The staff were very friendly, the room was spacious for 3 people and the bathroom was a mini suite, with seperate shower, wc and bath. Would stay there again definately.

I have traveled a lot over the years, and have stayed in many hotels. The Rey Juan Carlos I may be the best hotel I ever stayed in.It was a beautiful hotel the moment we walked in, the meals were greatand the service was great. Superb. Beautiful garden and very impressive interior. There is a gym, an indoor swimming pool and 3 outdoor swimming pools for relaxing. Dinner menu in the Polo restaurant was excellent. Very comfortable, close to metro station (so no problem with long distance from the centre), excellent view for the city from the room. The only fault with the room was that we thought that the shower area was too small and quite difficult when you can't move about very well..I had a nice view from my room to the Montjuic and the sea. Room was nice, proper facilities. It is a business hotel with good facilities. However, during the summerbreak the information regarding outside facilities such as dining in the garden and using the swimmingpools were ambivalent. For instance, swimming was allowed only at 10 am and dining needed reservations. Furthermore the prices were very high, 5 euro for a small cup of coffee and 50 euro for a pedicure seem somehow exaggerated. Staff were very helpful and good. The only thing would be pricing. Whist I'd expect high pricing from a 5*hotel - 20euros for a very basic ham sandwich does seem prettyexcessive!. The meals and drinks were really over priced, but then so was Barcelona in a whole.The room did not have a clock nor did it have a TV guide to determine which channel would offer the temperature for each day. It took a few mornings/evenings to find weather channels at specific times. One day we called the desk and they searched the Internet and called us later. We were on vacation and did not bring our computers. Staff was quite helpful and courteous...especially the concierge. the one swiming pool was out of order and derty and the other had chairs to seat so we staid down in the grass.There was smoking in the bar. the price of the internet. the dirty outdoor pool. The location. Prices in restaurant. Too expensive and very small portions. Your hotel is beautiful but looks very clinical to us. We felt there was not much atmosphere.the bed.... The breakfast way to expensive. Prepare to pay top price for everything in the hotel. The internet was 20 euros. It's far away from downtown and there are no touristic activities around. You have to take the metro to go to bars and restaurants.The beds were not comfortable. Too hard. Only 3 news stations in English on room TV. Not very good ventilation system in the bath-room. Unfortunately there was a pool party sponsored by the hotel which lasted until two in the morning. The noise was unbearable and the next morning my wife had an important presentation. Moreover, the exterior pool was closed during our last day for repairs. We should have been warned.The internet in the room did not work properly. It should have an indoor access to the SPA area because if it rains it is unconfortable to go there and get out there.Not in center (25 min) - not a city resort; spa only on extra payment,but men's was out of order anyway - poor for 5*; view (promissed atcheck in) was not nice at all. Our Room air conditioner was not working and the room was hot. Maintenance came and fixed it but it still did not work. we had to ask to get a room changed. Showers are not very ergonomically designed. almost all the time the water leaks through the door.- The unchanged breakfast menu for 6 days - Value Added Service to the customers should be more tangible - During the GSM fair there should be a scheduled shuttle bus every hour or 2 hours (at least one way from hotel to the exhibition) - suggestion: breakfast and/or pay TV should be a default service for the Executive Club Rooms -. In the room there was very little information about the facilities available in the hotel, eg. restaurant menus, locations of facilities, opening times. Food was very expensive, particularly breakfast. For this reason we ate only once in the hotel. We would have liked to take breakfast, but for a family it was too costly.Too far from the city centre. Access to internet should be free. Their lobby level 'tapas' bar with some sort of Heineken beer connection was exceedingly expensive for the quality of food and service received. The bar's Barcelona Minimalist interior decor was poorly executed and unattractive. I expect services to be more dear than those outside, but I demand quality in return especially from a five star hotel.Swimming pool not opened Sunday morning, and no place to have a sweet witha coffee in the hotel - except the hotel restaurant where you can eat only a la carte menu, and a very poor fresh bar, with old cookies. too far from downtown. For non Spanish guests the dinnertimes are a bit late, a la carte choices should be available for reasonable prices. For instance, dinner prices were set for three meals, starter, diner and desert. A single options was not possible, so I had to pay the full price in the cafe. That can be accomodated more in my view. No tea/coffee in rooms; Uncomfortable hard beds; Poor value for money. Not impressed by any of the bars or restuarants Very difficult to get the right temperature in bedroom-far too warm. Also too hot in the bars.
