Positioned on the edge of a cliff, Acra-Retreat is situated on the border of the malaria-free Elands Krans Nature Reserve. It is a good stopover point between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park. It features a seasonal outdoor pool and a children's pool and barbecue facilities. Horse riding, mountain climbing, abseiling and spa treatments can be arranged at the reception. The area abounds in birdlife, including species like owls, swallows and guinea fowls. All rooms offer a private entrance to the decks with mountains views. Each room is fitted with a flat-screen TV and satellite channels. Tea/coffee facilities, a safe, and fan are standard. Acra-Retreat Mountain View Lodge has a fully licensed pub. Sundowners can also be enjoyed on the deck, and dinners are served on request. The hotel is located on the way to the Kruger Park, 2.5 hour’s drive from Johannesburg. Free secure and private parking is possible on site.

The views from the balcony where breakfast is served is superb, especially at sunrise. If you can do not miss the opportunity. The staff is extremely friendly, being a good example of the South African hospitality. Very relaxed atmosphere. Our room was very spacious, well kept with all the premises. We also booked the horse ridding in the link of the hotel and it was brilliant. Totally recommended to stay here if you are planning to be in the surrounding area.
all reviews » The zebra suite was fabulous. The place was fabulous, a splendid view on the mountains. A comfortable place to be. The friendliness of the owners and the staff. The breakfast is copious and varied; we took the dinner and it was just great. Pretty pool if you have the time and the weather. The hosts Holger and Norma were wonderful. Food was delicious, dinner and breakfasts were very generous. We loved our get away for the weekend! The views from the deck were amazing making for the perfect setting for sundowners to end long days in the surrounding mountains. The Hospitality in the lodge was great and I would like to take few of my friends there. The place is beautiful, clean and the staff are very friendly. We had a good stay and Holger made sure that we enjoy every minute of our stay. Superb location en route to Kruger or Panorama Route, most helpful and friendly owners. Care taken to provide high quality breakfasts and evening meals. No downsides at all. Most thoroughly recommended. Norma & Holger are fabulous hosts... nothing was too much effort! The room, staff, security & not to mention the food was much more than we expected... would definately recommend to friends. The staff were amazing. Helgar and Norma were great hosts. Halfway between Johannesburg and Nelspruit. Spacious rooms. Very nice views across the valley. Good breakfast. The only but was that thee was a beautiful bath but no proper shower in the room. Walter Boven is a little bit small, so be sure to have dinner sorted if you are arriving late. Nothing. We were woken up each morning with the staff setting breakfast right outside our doors. The banging of plates, cupboard doors and cutlery each morning wasn't great. The walls seem to be paper thin as we could hear everything going on in the kitchen and bar. Next time we'll request a room away from the service areas. Waterval Boven did not have a lot to offer as a town. But there is a lot to offer in the immediate area. The tollgate is a slept and very expensive. - The decoration in our room was poor. There's nothing not to like!. The shower could be improved. Nothing. Nothing everything was perfect. I would suggest a choice of evening meals - not everyone eats meat. Expensive compared to other similar lodges. But the positives made up for it. Noise and lack of privacy of the room as it was adjacent to the dining room and verandah. Lack of privacy. Noisy guests in the evening right outside the bedroom. Lack of seating in the room. Dog poo in the garden. Evening meal served much too late.

In Waterval Boven: Drive under the railway bridge. At the third stop sign turn right, direction Hospital. Pass Hospital. The next entrance on the left is Acra Retreat Mountain View Lodge. From Pretoria: Take the N4 direction Nelspruit. From Nelspruit: Take the N4 direction Machadodorp. After going through the tunnel turn left at the Waterval Boven exit.
