A friend and myself needed accommodation for one night before our train trip back to Cape Town. We have never been to Johannesburg and surroundings and were extremely delighted with our choice of accommodation. Peaceful surroundings, birdlife, beautiful and comfortable room, large garden with chairs and tables on the patio or outside, and every amenity you needed to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. We arrived earlier than check-in time due and were immediately offered coffee and a plac.

No bath in the room The site advertised DSTV in the hotel details, however there were only a very small selection of channels available (none of the children's channels - much to the dismay of my 4-year-old!). Room number 1 has a nice view of the porch and the garden, but it is at the entrance door, so a bit noisy with all the guests coming and going. I could also hear the guests walking, coughing and talking in the room next to mine. So bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Also pack an eye mask due to the lights on the porch. Parking area is poorly surfaced and out of sight of the buildings - a bit awkward to use. Multiple keys ( small inconvenience only). Johannesburg itself is not very pedestrian friendly and arranging transportation is difficult. nothing.

Travelling information

From the airport: Take the R24 to Johannesburg then the N3 South Johannesburg, thereafter the M2 West Johannesburg City and then the N1 North Sandton/Pretoria. From the N1 North take the Empire off ramp (R55): Turn left into Empire Road and keep in the left lane. At the first traffic light, turn left into Owl Street which later becomes Anet Road. Pass the Atlas Studio’s and pass the big Egoli Gas towers. Anet Road becomes Kingsway. Keep in the right hand lane. At the 6th set of traffic lights, with Media 24’s parking area on one corner, the ABSA building on the 2nd corner and some run-down tennis courts on your left, turn right into Lothbury Rd. The road to your left at this traffic light will be Cookham. Lothbury becomes Melville’s 7th Street. Continue up Lothbury, pass circle with 1st Avenue (road will now be 7th Street). Continue past all the shops and restaurants on both sides of the road. At the traffic light turn left into 4th Avenue. We are number 54, 4th Avenue.
