I stayed here solo for a week while on business - this time I brought my husband with me as I really wanted him to see it. The bed was so comfortable!! The location is outstanding, the price was very affordable, and the staff are fantastic - always friendly and helpful. However our favorite aspects have to be the hotel itself - the wood staircase and panelling, the beautiful stained glass windows, and - most of all - the elevator. We look forward to coming back.

I found my bed in a hostel style room to be quiet by city standards. Most people seem to go out to party but the atmosphere is still good. The friendly guy at the Front desk was awesome. Still can't get the image of him rescuing the 3 of us in the event of an earthquake...yep he volunteered!!! The room was spacious, warm and we had our own private bathroom. It felt comforting, welcoming and a friendly atmosphere. A lot of old world character - wood paneling; stained glass windows; high ceilings etc.. Seems to have been recently well renovated. Could not fault the room and facilities. The food options were very good value for money. Location was very convenient to town attractions. I really like the public kitchen and facilities offered to the hotel guests, and the fact that you can choose to live either in a dorm or a more private room. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and the layout of the whole building is very nice, clean and classy. Breakfast if I hadn't to hurry to the airport as per last time - I booked twp separate nights at the same time two and a half weeks apart. No upgrade to include shower but again a double bed in a single room. No noise this time!!!! I like the key cards. Good location. Third stay at this hotel, I like it because its fairly decent, close to town and the breakfast is cheap ($3 for eggs on toast!). My only advice would be to purchase a pair of ear plugs (which they do sell at reception for $2) as you will definitely need them :). We flew up to see phantom and the hotel was literally just around the corner from the theatre. Also within walking distance of town and shopping. Also excellent bus links for the airport. Great place for a one night stay on the run. Proximity to city centre Wonderful staff - first impressions count and the name of the first face to greet us was Finn. He deserves a payrise (and holiday) as he was there morning, day & evening, always friendly, always helpful. Location was the best, central spot. Electronic door cards. Shower/washroom was so stunning, it seemed out of a place for a hostel! Showers themselves were very nice, even when done with showering, the cubicle stays nice and warm. The bathroom facilities, while shared were modern and very clean, great showers. The bedroom was tidy and comfortable. A towel was provided. Sky TV was provided. Close to restaurants and shops. The staff were super friendly. Upgrade to room with shower. Double bed or better which I thought was unusual for a single room but welcome. Breakfasts seem very cheap but unfortunately I was rushing off early in the morning to get toi the Airport. Relaxed helpful but unobtrusive staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Because its a big city hostel, there's not really much 'neutral' hang out space. You're either in the kitchen/TV room, the front lobby, or the pub next door. Understandable since downtown real estate is expensive. Also would be nice if they offered lockers. I always feel more at ease in a new city if I know my passport and credit cards are safely locked away and I don't have to spend the day lugging around a bag like some sort of tourist... No mirror for the vertically challenged people! She had to stand on her tip-toes to view her forehead! The fact that there wasn't a man standing waiting at the other end of the double shower!! Herbal teas would have been a bonus in the selection offered. Please note we did not take anything home with us...yep we left the hot chocolate there...hard to believe but we did!. Due to location there was noise outside from revelers leaving pubs etc late at night. Also quite a bit of noise from backpacker returning to rooms/dorms at night wanting to carry on the party!. Nothing this time really. I got what I expected. Bed covers could do with a bit of an update, make the room feel so out dated. The boy racers, the yelling, the screaming, the sirens, the boom boom boom of the music til 2.30am on a Saturday night. Great place to stay for one night but you may want to rethink somewhere quieter if staying longer. None of the above is the hotels fault but you would want to be aware of these things. At the end of the day we had a good laugh about it all and it was a great night away. Even though the wifi was free, it never worked! They kept saying it did worked. Since it was free, I just gave up like everyone else did. [My best advice is to go to the city library, wiFi is free, it's like a 10 min walk there, plus it's very nice in there. To be fair 99% of hostels and hotels in nz really need to get a grip with this internet situation! It's 2013 for crying out loud!! Stayed in room 408, there was only one electric socket point for an entire 4 man room....... I was given a passcode for wifi and it didn't want to connect. I would have liked a microwave in my room, no other cooking facilities. The mirror provided was up too high. Not everything had been tieded - fairly minor. More of a hassle was the rowdiness from about 10pm through to about 3.00am in what must have been the pub part of the hotel. I hardly slept. This puts me off another visit in the future. Not enough comfortable seating in the bar area near heat sources for relaxation when you don;t want to be in your room. No negatives for me. A bit noisy on a busy-ish street, no parking space except expensive street parking. Nothing - I keep coming back ... Bit noisy but understandable considering location and price. Elevators a bit dated. wifi slow, kitchen grubby. Slight booking/rooms hiccup due staff member going on leave without updating the room changes. Handled and resolved at check-in fine. Bit noisy with the bar downstairs but all good with a decent set of earplugs. I didnt like the tour of ii parliment, ioiiiit was a little bit patchy dirty in some places. that i couldnt stay longer. Hot water disappeared on the first night all fixed the next day. Nothing. Frosted Glass on bathroom door. If I want to see people on the toilet, ill find a suitable website. The room was a lil cramped and hard to move around in. Bit out of the way. for the price it was great. A bit tired in the furnishings. Very noisy rattly exhaust fan in bathroom. No room service for second day. abit noisy in morning, but just stick air plugs in... Rooms very old fashioned. - i got bed bugs from my room causing me to have to go to the doctor to get rid of the hideous bites all over my leg. really expect a bit more from a hotel. meals good bistro, but tired of that every night. need vegetables occasinally. Water pressure in shower, the heater didnt work and the blinds were broken and didnt keep the draft out. N/A. tv didn't work- problems with digital. Avoid on Saturday nights ! as there is loud music till 3am from the bar downstairs ! Went to reception to complain, but hotel can't do anything about it. Reception said they receive many complaints about loud music on Sat eve. The kettle had to be on the floor to be plugged in. Tasteless brand of coffee sachet No tea bags. Bathroom fan , no big deal. Could be a bit noisy at night. I do not understand question three - I have never done any skiing or mountains or wildlife in a hoteI I do not understand 'allow the property to respond'. What and whose property? Lots of noise - outside and windows rattling loudly in the wind Bathroom fan would not turn off and was a disturbing sound nuisance. Terrible slow shower heads in shower.

You may experience noise disturbances from the bar and from the street during this time. Please note that this property requires a $5 deposit upon check in to cover lost keys.
