The property was fully refurbished in November 2016, and now features new owners. VU Thermal Lodge boasts 10 rooms with private pools that are filled with natural thermal water, pumped from 25-metres deep. There is an outdoor geothermal heated swimming pool, suitable for use all year round. Each refurbished room has a large flat-screen TV and air-conditioning. Family rooms have super king-sized beds. Guests can take a 15-minute walk by the lake to Taupo’s city centre or a 3.5 km drive from Tauhara Golf Course. The property is an 8-minute drive from Taupo Airport.

It was clean, hotelier recommended the local english pub for dinner up the road - great recommendation by the way. Nice and quiet even though it was fully booked. Great location. Hot spa in room was lovely. Room small but clean comfortable and all we needed. Staff were very pleasant and being beside the lake was great. I liked the friendly staff and the great location. Also LOVE the private thermal hot tub in each unit.

Cleaning staff did a good job, spa pool man very helpful, location lovely, comfortable. The private THERMAL WATER spa directky attached to the unit is great !. It was clean. I thought the facilities were a little bit over-priced for what we received. Very small unit (which was ok for us) but a little overpriced at $149. We stayed in a similar unit in another tourist town that was $130. They wouldn't let me check out even slightly later than 10am!. small tv .Older style units but still good price for what you pay. Entertainment in the second room - TV - for the want of looking for a negative. shower was a bit a bit piddly. Room was over warm, did not have enough ventilation. Could of done with more pillows. I prefer two pillows to get a good nights sleep!!. Lack of ventilation. Bedside lights were not working. Bit run down for the money. It was cold and the electricity was turned off early in the morning around 8. Since it is September 18, it was really cold for me coming from the hot climate.Room was not warm at all. uncomfortable to say the least, what a shame. rather dated. I'm not a fan of cement block walls, stark lighting and rather grubby carpeting for decor, and the thermal spa was a bit of a joke-- a large bathtub in a strange enclosure. Our neighbours smoked and drank beer right outside our window, and there was no outdoor space for us to enjoy. Kids had a reaction to chemicals in heated pool. Found the man we spoke to for bookings very difficult to deal with. The very snippy snappy attitude of the manager who - at 9:55 in the morning - "advised us", in no uncertain terms (frankly really crappy !!) that if we stayed longer than another five minutes, we would be charged for another overnight. Hard to believe, but true. A real a ...hole !!. Old, small, not well equipped, overpriced.
