  Everyone was extremely friendly just as expected from true Japanese place. A person from the ryokan met us halfway from the station, showed the way and helped with the luggage, though we have not even told ryokan about the time we plan to arrive! I believe those guys patrol the area each time a train arrives just in case. We had 4 nights at half board (meaning breakfast and dinner is included in the price) The staff were really friendly and not afraid to engage with us even though we had little Japanese and their English was mostly job specific. Our room was Japanese tatami mats and really big. The beds were put out at night while we had dinner. The food at breakfast and dinner was totally awesome and very Japanese with sashimi and sukiyaki

  Very welcoming staff. Felt like an authentic experience. Nice traditionnal home. Excellent Japanese breakfast. This ryokan caters to Japanese tourists as well, not only westerners, which we liked. - * helpful and patient staff * excellent room * the japanese bath * great welcome.

  Beautiful atmosphere. Authentic traditional as opposed to modern renovation to look traditional, so don't expect top o' the range furnishings. Bonus wifi in our room because our room was over the lobby's free wifi.website says no internet avail but they now provide a laptop in a side room for free use and free wifi in the lobby. Felt real special as they display your name on the board out the - The reception staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. The Japanese style breakfast was delicious. The restaurant staff excellent. Location great for easy walking distance to sightseeing attractions restaurants and shopping including the morning market by the bridge. Japanese style Bath/Spa is excellent. Taking off our shoes and using hotel slippers everywhere you walk inside the hotel. Our two pieces of luggage were carried up to the 3rd floor for check-in and picked up for check-out.

  We really enjoyed our stay, since it was our first time in a Ryokan, we were very happy that one of the staff members could speak english and explain the basic rules that we have to follow when staying in a traditional japanese Ryokan. Also the image with the instructions of how to wear the Yukata were very nice for us. And also the use of the ons... what people say » en was explained very well (also in the Onsen). I can recommand this Ryokan to visitors that haven't been at a Ryokan, because it was a very enjoyable - The housekeeper lady was extremely warm, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the city and the attractions. She made you feel very at home. My family and I stayed in Japan for 7 years as the company country president and I aware of what is good standard in Japan.

  We really liked the views from the hotel of the mountains and over the town of Takayama. The staff was very friendly and their English was good enough. The hotel is huge and though it might seem old, it still preserves the style and grace from back in the day when it was built. The onsen was great, with a bath inside and outside, separated for men... what people say » and women with the possibility of renting a private one. The free shuttle bus in the morning was very convenient. The breakfast was abundant, however - Excellent hotel. We had a wonderful stay: beautiful public bath, spacious tradicional rooms with amazing view of the city. Extremely helpful staff although do not speak a lot of English. Breakfast was included and if was delicious!! As it is quite far away from the station they offer a shuttle free bus to the station at mornings. They even gave us a traditional tissue as a gift!!

  i liked everything in Tanabe Ryokan begining with Mrs. Akiko Tanabe, the owner. She is a very friendly japanese woman that runs the Hotel and that made me a lot a good recomendations.   Staying in Ryokan Murayama was a great experience as we wanted to stay in a more traditional accommodation in a rural setting. The train trip to Takayama was a highlight as it was so picturesque. Our breakfast was beautifully arranged and the service at Murayama Ryokun was exceptional.
