Everyone was extremely friendly just as expected from true Japanese place. A person from the ryokan met us halfway from the station, showed the way and helped with the luggage, though we have not even told ryokan about the time we plan to arrive! I believe those guys patrol the area each time a train arrives just in case. One of our group was a vegeterian, we've told about it beforehand and although Japanese cuisine cannot be adapted to vegeterians, their chef did all he could with the dinner.A.
all reviews » I have been to japan 47 times and I really loved staying at this hotel. We had 4 nights at half board (meaning breakfast and dinner is included in the price) The staff were really friendly and not afraid to engage with us even though we had little Japanese and their English was mostly job specific. Our room was Japanese tatami mats and really big. The beds were put out at night while we had dinner. The food at breakfast and dinner was totally awesome and very Japanese with sashimi and sukiyaki . Wonderful Ryokan in Takayama. We spent two nights here as part of our honeymoon to Japan. If you want to experience traditional Japan I would definitely recommend a stay here. The staff knew it was our honeymoon and gave us a lovely room and also a special dessert and a little gift! The Ryokan itself was immacutely kept and the staff were lovely and very helpful. Dinner and breakfast were included in the price. I would definitely recommend at least having the dinner included as that made our st. We loved everything about this ryokan. Convenient location (close to train and bus terminal and within 10-15 minute walk to old area); staff lavishes lots of attention on you, greeting you with tea and snacks and making sure all your needs are met the whole time you are there. The room was simply beautiful (we had the "rabbit room"--each one is different). The breakfast was great, the onsen wonderful. So much fun and serene to stay there. Wish we could have stayed longer. The stuffs here are very helpful and friendly both at the front desk and restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The food is delicious, we like all local dishes they cooked for us (grilled Hida beef on Hoba leaf, Hida beef sukiyaki, pan fried Hida beef and so on). The public bath is very cozy and great for relaxation especially if you take a public bath before bedtime. Wifi is fast and available everywhere inside the ryokan. The staff's good service. We enjoyed the checking in procedure which was complete with a green tea and Japanese sweet. The dinner was fabulous and was a sight to behold. Breakfast the next day was also very good and well presented. For a standard type building they have decorated it just as I had imagined a ryokan to be. The whole of the atmosphere at the ryokan was great, with some small golden edges (such as elegant yukatas with real obies for dinner, aromatic oil lamp for room if you wanted and a national flag on your table). It took an age driving through the small back streets to find the hotel, as our Japanese SatNav couldn't find the front entrance, and we didn't understand the instructions it gave us that well. Other than that absolutely nothing to complain about!. Nothing I and friends did not like. We love everything there. we found the food a little too salty and way too much protein and not enough vegetables but this may be what the Japanese like when they visit ryokans. There is a curfew. You can't access your room after 10pm. The hotel is situated in central part of town, and hence, does not have a Japanese garden, which I missed since the intention of the hotel is to make the guests feel very much at home in a ryokan. The rate for the room including breakfast is somewhat high, however, I would not have missed my stay at this hotel!. It wasn't that we didn't like this but as a westerner it was challenging sleeping on the floor on a futon. We didn't find it very comfortable but it was a true Japanese experience and that's why we were there. Door heights were about 175cm and we ended up with sore heads from hitting heads in the doorways! The low chairs were hard to get in and out of. Nothing !. If you are not use to sleeping on a futon, floor living can be a bit of a challenge. Really, nothing. Even the price is well worth it. Definitely no view from the room, but it didn't matter at all. Some where in the room like the damage of paper at the slided door in the room which might cause by the error of the guests. Nothing. Just keep in mind it's japanese style rooms, ask for two layers of futon if you prefer a less firm experience. Nothing. The tatami room pillow was too hard for me. Could have provided option for soft pillows. Walls in the hallways need to be painted. Plus the heaters in the rooms were loud and put out a lot of ambient light. I booked the hotel with hotel dinner for two nights... The first night dinner was very impressive but the second one was a little down from the first night... but overall was very satisfied. Price a bit steep. Breakfast was not very good. The fried fish was cold and hard and did not seem fresh. The onsen was operated by a timer and I could not have my public bath after 9 in the morning. Sorry nothing... The Pillows !. A bit pricey. the dinner is too expensive (5000 Y person). enjoyed everything. The room had a strange scent the mildew!. There is nothing that we did not like.
