Etruria was a very nice small boutique hotel run by the owner, who is very kind and organized. She treated us very well, gave us directions and recommendations and a city map etc. The parking is like a 100 meters or 100 yards away, you'll see why these walled city hotels don't have parking. But it is very convenient right at the entrance of the city. You can walk to the hotel in less than 5 minutes. She even made sure the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is small, but it is smack in the middl.
all reviews » Great location in the old city with a lovely garden at the top. No lift, but if you are going to a hill town you are going to be using lots of stairs anyways. No lift was not a problem for us, but some people may, We had a view over the street from their top floor. It was interesting to watch the town wake up in the morning. Wonderful location and staff. Rooms clean and comfortable. Very nice breakfast. Hotel had a nice sitting area on second floor with sofa and tv. Very nice patio on the top of hotel, sadly no time to use it. Would definitely stay there again and do hope to return in the future. Volterra is amazing, loved it!. The host were warm and welcoming fixing a tray of hot tea for me to take to the room on my first night. Italian breakfast buffet with individually prepared coffee of choice was served in the morning. Our room was fresh and clean with fluffy white towels!. the location is so great!. Of course it was noisy but we expected that since we stayed right above the street. The young man at the desk, Micheal was absolutely the best! He was beyond the call of duty helping us get a train schedule to Cinque Terre. I loved the location, the design, lovely, friendly n helpful staff. The hotel is clean, the breakfast perfect, was a perfect stay, already recomended n will in the future, also wanna go back!!. If I have to say one thing I didn't like is the smallness of the bathroom, the toilet seat is close to the wall and showers in Italy are tiny, but again, this is a building that's been there for a couple of hundred years, she has done an amazing job of remodeling and keeping it spotless. Rooms were facing street with noise evening and morning but not a problem at night and I loved hearing the sounds of the town. If you are a late sleeper, might prefer a room at the back. the water heater for coffee and tea was for looks only as the plug would not plug in the wall. Neither would the TV plug work in the wall. We used our traveling plug adapter to use the hotels own equiptment!. That my stay finished and had to leave. :D. Typical small Italian hotel bathrooms, a rather small complaint with almost all hotels in reasonable price range. Bathrooms are clean and adequate -- showers tiny in nearly all cases. We visited few museums and they were poorly guided in english. Audioguide was good but there were no english texts explaining the pieces. The surrounding is quite loud. The bathroom walls crumbled, needed repair (not criticism). A small fridge would have been good. Very small shower. The beds were not very comfortable. Description says car parking available on site whereas no carparking exists inside the city walls of Volterra. This is misleading and needs to be changed. No elevator. Rooms could use luggage racks. The hotel could be quite good but a lot of details cause that it is not (a sink out of order, it is problematic to adjust an optimal water temperature in the shower - very hot, shutter out of order - unpossible to open, room smells).
