Il Marchese del Grillo was a delightful place to stay whilst in Sulmona. Marta - the owner, was most helpful with information on places to visit both in Sulmona, and the surrounding area. The breakfast was fantastic with a whole array of cakes, cheeses, meats, fruits, etc, and the staff always asked if we wanted any egg dishes which they made freshly. We ate on the rooftop each morning, and had stunning views of the beautiful city of Sulmona. Monica deserves a special mention - she was so warm .
all reviews » The rooms were amazing , spacious with excellent linen and bedding. Very quiet location with free parking nearby. Also free WiFi onsite. The owners were extremely hospitable with excellent local knowledge and maps available for interesting day trips. Breakfast was a daily Gourmet Feast with large selection of local produce, Crostina, organic eggs and local meats and cheeses. A really superb Italian B and B experience which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Marta is very warm, friendly and helpful. Anything that we needed from train tickets to taxi bookings, Marta made it happen. Our room was clean, beautifully furnished and inviting. The rooftop garden was amazing with breathtaking views. Breakfast was supplied every morning and there was lots of different home cooked foods to choose from and lovely coffee any way you liked it. Perfect host, perfect location and perfect value for money !!. This B&B surpassed all expectations. We entered as strangers and left feeling like family. Our host, Marta, was so friendly and helpful in every way. She personally served the most wonderful breakfast each morning. Marta's family is responsible for the very fresh meats, cheeses, and baked goods that are offered. It was overall a lovely stay and would return if I ever have the chance again. 5 stars!!. Sulmona is a very interesting and attractive town, a good base for exploring the Abruzzo parks. Booked as a stop-over, wish we had stayed longer!. The owners of this B&B, especially the lady Marta went out of her way to do anything to make our stay more enjoyable. She hovered over us each morning at breakfast to make cappucchinos and lattes. The food at this B&B was a cut above that of the other B&B's in which we stayed. I strongly recommend this accommodation for anyone. This is an amazing town and an incredible B&B. The breakfast, if your lucky enough to visit in good weather, is served on the rooftop terrace, and is one of the best I've ever experienced while traveling. What a gem of a place with a wonderful, friendly hostess. Everything was done so well, Marta made us very welcome. It is situated in the heart of the old town which can be a bit tricky to navigate with car, however the experience was first class. Martha and Erica were excellent hosts providing us with our choice for available rooms, good restaurant suggestions and an exquisite breakfast on the elevated rooftop terrace. There was nothing we disliked, although the place did take some finding in the very narrow one-way streets. Do note that the roof terrace is up about 70 steps!. No complaints. Everything was perfect!. Our room was off the inner courtyard, and when other guests returned for the night, it was sometimes noisy. When the sensor light switched on, our room lit up like a beacon. no private parking but could park nearby. Owner didn't speak English that well. Nothing at all!. N/A. Nothing, everything was EXCELLENT.
