We stopped at Hotel Elite which is just down the road from the Montreal. The staff were fantastic and made us really welcome, as well as offering advice on where to go and where to eat without falling into the over-priced tourist traps. *****. Excellent service, location and comfort. I stayed in both the Hotel Montreal and Elite and found both to be of high standard compared to many others in the same price range in several european countries.

Location. It was great. Rooms were clean.The hotel (Elite, ie, the dependence) is very close to the train station and, since the town is small, is very easy to reach the turist places by foot. The bathroom could have done with a shelf and a hook or two. no 24 hour reception, had to go through no less than 4 locks to get to room. no parking, the hotel cooperates with a company that parks your car for the night (parking in the whole old town of Firenze is forbidden) but the price of the service was almost half of the price of the room; however the staff didn't insist on taking the service and explained the option of parking on your own (which is on the plus :) ). The overnight/morning clerk did not speak any english. If they have elevator, much better!!! Totally I am very satisfied with this hotel very much. To many steeps to the upper rooms.Water flow for shower was very bad in the morning. The bathroom was small but adequate.Just be aware that the lift only provided for 1st floor. Many steps to climb if on other floors. No international phone access from room however there is a Western Union two doors away with reasonable rates for calls. It was a bit noisy.room a bit small. decor could do with updating. The room is too small. For older people it was a little hard to get around in with lots of stairs and long winding hallways. A be confusing. But nothing major.a/c a bit weak. Breakfast does not start until 7.30 am. This may be a problem if youhave to leave early.The breakfast was very basic and could have been better. Could have had a coffee maker, mini fridge in room. If you are traveling with small children or a lot of luggage the lift only goes to the first floor.The breakfast provided was not very nice. Althought they had said the credicard given upon booking on the website could be charged on the day of arrival, I expected them telling me before doing so. I had given the card for garantee and I wanted to pay cash, so I wasn't happy about it.You only can reach the second floor by stair. Just to share the the toilet with somebody else. Noisy (the bulding is mostly residential and Italian families can berather noisy), shower didn't drain properly, air con unit in room but nocontrol (presumably this is an optional extra). size of room-very small. They acknowledged, on referring to the booking sheet, that I had reserved a double room but they insisted that they did not have a spare room the first night and offered to convert two singles to a double for the second night. They did, and that was fine, but I only heard one other person in our albergo during our stay. I believe that other rooms were available the first night. There are no lifts beyond the first floor. So if you have a room in the second and third floor and you have heavy luggage.. god bless.. my hands are still paining from all the steep climb that i had to do with the luggage.Room smelt of stale smoke, bathroom shared between quite a lot of rooms. smokey smell in non-smoking room, very small room, very sporadic internet Wi-Fi access (server regularly down), but mostly I did not appreciate the indifferent staff, all except for the lovely woman at checkout.
