Really quiet, lovely spacious room with a balcony overlooking the courtyard. Good breakfast with sweet and savoury options. Able to park right outside. (Like most places in Sicily there is a confusing one way system but stick with it. Drive up through he main car park, follow the signs through the top end of the town and Il Carmine can be found almost as you leave the town by the ports del Carmine).
all reviews » Il Carmine is very conveniently located in a quiet piazza about 200m from the centre of the the old hilltop town of Erice. The town itself is very busy with tourists so this was a big help. The charcter of the hotel derived a lot from its past as a monastery. The rooms were very clean if a bit austere but that's exactly what I expected. The staff were reserved but charming. The rooms are very nice and well decorated. The staff was very helpful and was always there to help/guide us. Parking available. The dinning room is very well done. The breakfast spread was good. Very romantic atmosphere too. It gives you a feeling of living in the old fashion but with all modern facilities and comfort. Had parking which was rare in Erice and still was close to everything. Rooms were huge, spotless and very quiet and dark when shutters were closed. Their is nothing fancy about the decorations, still had a Covent feel but that just added to its uniqueness. Il Carmine is very cozy and feels like a respite from the endless climbing required to get any where in the town. The Castle of Venus is fine, but not much to see. The agricultural museum down in the Spagnola area is a treat, but a long climb back up. - very friendly and helpful staff - good breakfast - the place itself with its specific character and great location - very quiet and nice surrounding in the very center - Erice is a "must-see" and Il Carmine is a great and very special place to stay. Il Carmine is in an former convent, inside the walls of Erice. It provided me with an excellent base to enjoy Erice and Trapani. It is a peaceful spot, and staff were helpful. There was ample good parking and I got good value for the price I paid. We were a three generation family traveling together. The hotel was within walking distance of all the sites, restaurants, etc. Rooms and beds were very comfortable, environment relaxing, breakfast great. One of our favorite hotels in Sicily. It's a hotel with a character - nicely located (inside medieval walls), peaceful and quiet, well decorated (spacious rooms with a balcony). The staff is very friendly and helpful. The town is very small, with the need to climb roads and steps to go anywhere in the town.the Duomo was closed for repairs, it is an isolated area and the access by car is very zig zag curvy and long. Would advise a day trip from Trapani via cable car. Few choices of restaurants. It was also cold and windy, requiring coats end of May. - It was pretty cold and windy and it was raining in Erice. Our room was also pretty cold as we arrived and we needed some time to heat it. It wasn't a big problem, but maybe out of season it would be good to turn the heating on prior to guests arrival. Quite a drive up and down the hill to reach other areas but with a car was not much of a problem. WIFI was a bit limited to only downstairs. Nothing. the fog the rain but even that made the place interesting. - An extra fee is applied last minute, which seems unfair and doubtful - this is supposedly a quiet place (a former convent) but no custodian works there to silence people after midnight - be careful if you want a private bathroom WITHIN your accomodation, so called private bathrooms are also offered OUTSIDE your accomodation. - kind of expensive for what it is... Having to leave. Room was very small Shower recess only for short thin people. I have no complaints. Breakfast wasn't great but in Italy they just don't give you a good breakfast anywhere so not that bad but the coffee was horrible! And that is normally the best part of breakfast in Italy. No complaints whatsoever. I would never go back to Erice. The facilities are lower-end tourism - we didn't eat out as many restaurants were closed the day we were there and we just had the feeling it would be a rip-off. People were not very friendly, unlike the rest of Sicily. We visited the Castle and the Museum but I would have preferred another day in Palermo. It was also freezing cold as the weather is very different at that altitude. place was dead in late March, and limited choice of places to eat. No coffee shop in hotel. No everyday changing of towels. No air conditioning for summer. Breakfast very limited. Nowhere in hotel to get a drink or snacks after 10.00am. Steep hills to climb up to village centre to cafes and restaurants which are few and far between this time of year and expensive. Walking around village difficult on wet cobbled streets. A place to visit in spring or summer not winter!. No airconditioner, very small shower with doors broken and that did not close causing water all over bathroom floor. Unripe or half rotting fruit for breakfast. The hotel is in an old monastery. Uncomfortable. Down pillows and comforters.
