Everything about this place was marvelous. First off, the owners / managers were delightful people and very helpful. Second, the decor was impeccable in every detail, so much care had clearly been given to even the tiniest design choice (like an actual tumbler in the cupholder on the bathroom wall rather than plastic cups). Clearly the owners take great pride in presentation. The location was amazing-- just yards from a big parking place on which you get a special rate if you stay at Hotel Bert.
all reviews » This hotel could not be any closer to the local bus station which takes you to the train and back for 1.5 euro each way. This is a 5 minute ride at the most. Unfortunately, I had a sly fox taxi driver bring me to the hotel and he charged me 15 euros. Initially he said 20 euros, but as I had a fit, he reduced the price. I had asked him how much it would be and he said he has a meter. . . Anyway, the lesson here is still persist and ask how much again! So the hotel is actually in an excellent loc. The Hotel Berti has the old fashion charm that one reads about in a travel magazine. The staff was waiting for me outside the Hotel at night. Wow! Everything was perfect- Staff, location, room, breakfast. The hotel is located just outside the main archway and 50 meters to the bus stop for the bus to take you to train station. It is also located only a couple of blocks from the Basilica of St. Francis. Hotel Berti is a 10 in my book. The owners were really excellent hosts both in the hotel and their restaurant. This simple hotel had a rather old fashioned charm with attention to detail. The host remembered how the ladies li ed their tea served each morning! Great location just inside the rather beautiful San Pietro gate and only 200 meters or so straight uphill to the piazza of San Francisco. We parked for free in the church car park opposite. The hotel staff were friendly and attentive. The room was comfortable and furnished nicely. Breakfast was served outdoors. The location is brilliant. Although at the bottom of town, it is near the bus station, secure parking and the St. Francis Basicilla. And although the main square is up hill, it does mean its all down hill after drinks and a hearty meal. The location is very conventient - close to transport -but not noisey - and the centre of the walled town. It is only a small hotel but the room was spacious with a nice bathroom. Most of the friendly staff speak English. The restaurant - in another building over the road - was well appointed and the food was reasonably priced and tasty. Fantastic location in city walls. Excellent service including drinks available all day (to residents only) which made us feel very special. The town was so busy and the weather very hot - over 30C - so having a shaded terrace to relax was terrific. Views great and perfect location to explore the town. Hotel berti is situated just inside the main archway into Assisi. Parking is across the road under the bus terminal at €10 per day. Perfectly placed to explore this most majestic of places. Everything was fine. nothing. The staff was not very friendly and it is a very noisy location. It is alos located at the bottom of town so you have to walk up hill for everything.
