Firstly the location is ideal for a city break, walking distance to all the top restaurants and pubs. The hotel staff both in hotel and bar were the one of the best I have experienced in my travels. The room was basic with an Air condition unit for hot and cool air, worked perfectly with only a very low hum . Tea coffee and biscuits in room which made a little treat between meals. Food in hotel very good. Breakfast was excellent and topped with real friendly staff. Thank you all for a very plea.
all reviews » Great position, good quality accommodation attached to character pub right in Eyre Square in the heart of the attractive and vibrant city of Galway. Fabulous breakfast - individually cooked (instead of withering in a buffet) and served in a lovely room over the old pub. Pleasant friendly staff. Great location, just beside bus station, train station, walking streets. Nice clean room with a 32" lcd tv + sky sport 1,2,3 dvd player. Very warm room all night Staffs are very friendly, breakfast is very good ( full Irish ) I just fell in love with this hotel. I can recommend to everyone. It is obviously a very popular place for revellers (but my room was quiet) The dining rooms and the breakfast rooms feature intricate old woodwork on the ceilings and walls. The place seems to be steeped in history. I had an enjoyable stay. Very cosy hotel, at a great location in the city centre of Galway. Clean room, comfortable (long) beds. Great shower. Friendly staff ready to provide any assistance when needed. Would recommend it to anybody who wants to enjoy Galway city. I have used this hotel on many occasions, and have never been dissapointed. The staff are friendly and helpfull, and the location is ideal for resturaunts,shopping and entertainment.I would have no hesitation in recomending it. Phil C. Position ..we loved the park and shop street. the pub next door found the song Galway girl you have god food, great music, Irish charm and culture...fell in love with Galway...we will come back and to Skiff Arms. easy access to Galway City nightlife, good quality for the price, nice live music at the Skeff Bar in the evenings, close proximity to bus station/car rental location, helpful and attentive staff. This hotel was perfect. Great location across from the park and right next to heart of walking area of the City. Car park nearby, excellent breakfast and beautiful and friendly pub. Seems churlish to make any caveats since this was our favourite accommodation in our entire trip around Ireland. However kettle was missing from room (although I'm sure that it would have been supplied if we needed it). Would have a liked the option of a room with a bath - although the hotel was probably full. Many older hotels suffer from the same problem, small rooms. No amount of simple refurbishment can solve this problem. I booked a double room for sole use. Don't book a single sized room. Found the price a little on the expensive site, might be because of Paddies. The sound of the nightclub could be heard in the room, but faintly and fair enough this was pointed out when we booked (so no real problem to us). Maybe more imagination with breakfast for people who don't like fry ups. Well the Galway culture is not promoted very well....more walks for different groups, music nights, gourmet food evenings, Irish culture in all forms,Galway festival. room faced a brick wall/no view. Nothing. Can't think of anything. Nothing. Nothing. No car park, BUT 50% discount nearby - car parks in Galway not expensive anyway. The rooms not cleaned properly. i had to come home...... The car parking was quite far away. also unable to park outside and unload cases, this was due to the bollards at the end of the street preventing access. Room was 218 Loud noise from nightclub below til early morn. Just need to make guest aware, second night i was ready for it. Nothing. There were three very drunk girls sitting in the hall making God awful noise from about 2-6 in the morning. They were also smoking, which was heinous. I tired to contact the front desk several times, and no one ever answered the phone. I couldn't find a hairdryer in my room, but I'm sure if I asked I would have been given one (I had packed my own in any case). Not being able to have breakfast earlier than 8.00 a.m. On my first morning I had to leave the hotel at 7.45 a.m. for my first meeting and therefore was unable to have breakfast (a bad start to a long day!). Also, a bath would have been nice. we did state at the time of booking that is was to start our honeymoon I just thought we could have had a bigger room as our room was quite tidy, the bar staff for the most were pleasant and helpful but 1 member of staff said he did not have pineapple just when infact they did and he was just to lazy to go to the other side of the bar to get it - we reported it to the bar manager. A bit noisy if you need an early night. if you had a room at the front of the building (my daughter's room) it could be loud, directions should include that you can pull up out front on ped walk to unload, and where to park. Rooms and corridors quite small, a bit claustrophobic. The morning breakfast service was a shambles. Our room window was facing a wall and was bit stuffy. We could faintly hear the music from the club downstairs. The hotel has a club on site and during the school year at least the college kids invade starting at about 11pm. The rooms were still fine but the pub was very loud and if you want a quiet pint before turning in you need to look elsewhere. Everything was good. The room was quite cold on our arrival and it took a long time for the air conditioner to heat the room. The night porter was the rudest man i'v ever met!!! It was like he was putting us up in his own personal house, not like we were the people actually paying to stay!! He totally let the hotel down!!. Very noisy on Thursday night -seemed to be a disco under room. We could hear the techno/disco/rave music blaring from the next door club, especially from the bathroom. Bar prices bit expensive. None. the mixture for the drink was very flat. No parking. Not enough toiletries or towels although when asked for more got them very speedily. Hair dryer broke but again got a replacement immediately, Breakfast the next morning was absolutely disgusting, rubber egg, potatos that I just cannot describe the taste of, inedible.
