    Room was enormous. Hotel seems to be mostly used by bus tour groups. We ate late to avoid the crowds, though had to ask for some food to be re-stocked. Recommend the pizzas from shop at the rear of the hotel. - location excellent size of room and good shower helpful staff clean room fresh watermelon at breakfast

    We went to this Hotel in Jun 2013 as a young couple and really liked the Hotel. The location is stunning, remote but right next to Golden Circle attractions and close enough to Reykjavik. The landscape is truly unique, one site of the Hotel faces a thermal energy plant, which bugged me at first, but after a while I found it fascinating to observe ... what people say » the steam being blown by the wind. The other site of the Hotel faces the lake in remote distance, so you get panoramic 'postcard views'. The Hotel has - The Ion is uniquely located next to a geothermal plant that billows steam and discharges hot water into an adjacent lagoon 24/7. Ordinarily, this would not be an attractive neighbor for a luxury hotel. However, the clean, modernist industrial design of the hotel is complemented by the adjacent plant. The Northern Lights bar is beautifully designed and juts out of the upper floors of the hotel providing a commanding view of the small valley and a sliver of the nearby lake Pingvallavatn. The room
