  After a very busy month participating in work exchange in Akureyri, I booked a stay at Skjaldarvík the night before I was to fly to Reykjavik. And I am so happy I did. This guest house was like heaven on earth. It's outside of town (the perfect distance if you have a car), set next to the fjord, well decorated, tranquil, and surrounded by chickens... what people say » , friendly dogs, and beautiful Icelandic horses. I spent my last night in Akureyri wandering around the fields and relaxing in the guest house's comfo - We really enjoyed our two night stay at Skjaldarvík Guesthouse. It is situated just off route one, five minute drive from Akureyri. We found the bedroom very comfortable and the shared facilities more than adequate. We decided to dine in the guest house on the first night as the weather had taken a turn for the worse – delighted we did as the food and service were both superb. I’m only disappointed we didn’t dine there on our the 2nd night (I found the local Thai in Akureyri very average). Bre

  The hostel has a really cool look, the cafe at the front has a nice atmosphere and good food (ended up eating there twice in 2 days). Rooms are comfortable and clean, facilities ample and tastefully decorated, all above hostel standard (the only hostel-like thing is the shower area, but still OK and clean). They have northern lights watching tour... what people say » s. But most of all, the staff were amazing. My friend lost his phone on the last night of our trip, and they quickly informed us when the next guests - By far it was the best hostel I have ever been. The price was not very high, all the facilities and the rooms were superb, and the location of the hostel too, just in the middle of the city centre. The hostel is friendly and has a very nice environment, with locals hanging out, music...In addition, it was very thoughtful of the staff too to give us a complimentary welcome drink. That really was a plus after all. You arrive tired from the journey and you feel home. Worth going there
