First of all, this is France. Places like France and the UK should have a different hotel categorization than the rest of the world. You must always subtract one star of what is announced. Once you get this, it is ok. The hotel rooms were spacious and nice. They are clean and have been recently renewed. Like most hotels in France and the UK, no fridge. Wifi is freely available, however. The availability of a lift was welcomed by us. If you really do not want to climb the stairs, then, make this.
all reviews » One of the friendliest places ever! The staff went out of their way to recommend places to eat, help us find our way, and find great things to do. Though the Mirabeau is indeed a hotel, it has all the warmth and friendliness of a very welcoming B&B! Although our room faced onto the street it was *very* quiet, and had obviously be recently renovated. The bathroom was beautiful! AND there is a lovely garden outside the breakfast room--while it is a place smokers can go, it is quite charmi. Hotel Mirabeau is a very good choice when in Tours. It is well located, nearby the train station (about 3 blocks) and a short walk to the cathedral and historic center. The touristic office is also very near. The hotel itself is quite clean, has a nice and friendly staff, good price and a very honest breakfast (basic but good quality). Room was spacious and bathroom was brand new, although not so big. There is an elevator, very helpful for carrying the luggage upstairs. We were surprised with the size of the room and the beds (two double beds). The staff polite and helpfull and gave us all the information we needed to spend our day in town. Buffet breakfast copious and varied at a reasonable price. Although located in a busy boulevard, the room was very quiet. We would definitelly go back and stay there. I think it's an excelente place to stay in order to explore the "Chateaux de la Loire". Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful when asked and questions. Would recommend the breakfast everytime. The room was large, airy, clean, comfortable bed, with a modern powerful shower. Well decorated with a lovely entrance. So good we stayed an extra night. Walking distance to the old quarter. Bonus was parking outside being plentiful and free. The hotel and town of Tours was an excellent base for touring the Loire Valley. The hotel is very near the railway station and close to Hertz where we hired a car. Good location if coming by train - and only about 10 minutes walk to the centre of Tours. You have to walk from 10 to 15 minutes to get there. But the walk is nice because of the neighborhood. No fridge (but this is a typical French problem). Nothing to speak of. The breakfast wasn't great and expensive at 8 Euros - much cheaper and better for half the price in cafes just along the street. nothing. Unfortunately the bed was not so terrific. Fell away at the sides so we struggled to stay on the bed for most of the night. We were told that most of the beds had been replaced but not ours as yet. No tea/coffee facilities in the room. being on the second floor with no lift and a heavy suitcase,. Not sufficient light in the room. Smell of old carpets or something like this. Although is a non-smoking hotel, our room smelled badly of cigarettes/cigars. Staff said they could not change our room. Provided scented air freshner but did not help much. Very hot in the room. The mattress was uncomfortable and sloped in the middle. But otherwise all was good. Nothing. Nothing. Lack of air conditioning. No ac and no one at front desk at night so room keys are left hanging in board at front desk. Noisy in the morning. Nothing. The choice at breakfast was not huge and when we asked for wholemeal bread, as ther was none left when we came for breakfast, we were told there was no more available. Parking close to the hotel is very difficult until about 18:30, and you will almost certainly have to pay during the day. Some may not like being on such a busy road, but we had a room on the ground floor and it was quiet enough.
