Traditional, very well maintained and decorated with great taste. Our superior room was very spacious, overlooking the garden, and the bathroom was modern. Breakfast is very complete. We really enjoyed the heated outdoor pool, excellent for spending the afternoon. Overall a great base for visiting the Loire Valley.

  The quality of the welcoming and flexibility ( we arrived around 11 pm. ) The room design. It was pure design. A wonderful bed ! It was @ 10 km from our appointment @ 5:30 am to take off with our balloon. - Great design, atmosphere was very calm & relaxing, host was very kind & helpful, good food, great location.

  Very charming chateau outside of Onzain. The chateau keepers could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Our French was not strong at all, and they very kindly helped translate a menu for us at a very nice restaurant they recommended in the neighboring town to celebrate our anniversary. They also called the restaurant to make the reservation... what people say » for us. They spoke fluent English which was incredibly helpful. The view from our 2nd floor room was truly spectacular! And the breakfast they offere - I loved the Hotel. Very nice staff and very relaxing place conveniently located next to the most famous Loire Castles. I will go back. A great find! The Loire castles are beautiful and visiting them is a pleasure. I stayed 3 days but I could have stayed a week. So much to see. Do not forget to visit the caves and do some wine tasting.

  The Chateau exceeded all our positive expectations. Claude,the owner , and his staff couldn't be more welcoming, charming or helpful. The furnishings and meal service are of the finest quality and provide for a very elegant experience in a most comfortable setting. We (including our two teenage daughters) felt very much at home. Breakfast on te - Chateau de Portail was a wonderful experience and Claude Herbert was an amazing host. It was nice to be welcomed so warmly into his home with nowhere out of bounds. The house is charming, warm, comfortable and elegant with a relaxed feel to it thanks to Claude Herbert's hospitality. As a family with two young girls (aged 3 and 5) this can sometimes be an annoyance to other guests and the host but we never felt like this. The breakfast was delicious and fresh (the brioche is to die for) and CH c
