The Metropol is a really characterful hotel, that has been slightlyoverwhelmed by more recent developments. There is a really relaxed andfriendly atmosphere and the staff are friendly and attentive. I wouldsuggest that it is a good idea to book a place in the secure garage forparking, although there is lots of space nearby. Easy to find,staff very helpfull,location good,could not fault it.

The neon sign outside lit up the bedroom, if the blind was pulled down is was not possible to open the window for air, also we were kept awake by by people shouting and screaming in the street below. There was also considerable noise from the nearby railway station. noise of the trains but that cannot be helped. crying child waking me up!. Next to train station, so will avoid it next time!!!. Bathroom was old and tired, and the accessories were minimal. Decor in reception bar depressingly dark. 2nd visit- room backed onto busy railway station-some noise during night.Next to railway line - noisy after 6am. Only one choice of wine in bar,. A little tired. 2 of the rudest women on the reception in the afternoon.Double bed is only a large single, not suitable for two people, loo impossible to manage correctly if over 5ft3 !!!Room must be in front of the hotel or you hear the trains revving on the platforms and passing through from very early in the morning (4am) if you are in the back. Very small room. Toilets quite uncomfortable : knees touching the wall in front of it. Could only sit knees apart ! Unacceptable for the price.Paying for garage space. External appearance; insufficient room to sit to use loo; misleadinginfo - it just isn't as good as the info suggests. I am surprised thatso many of the reviews are favourable, while just a few match myunfavourable views.
