Having stayed at the Southway a half dozen times in the last ten years, this visit was the best by far--perhaps it has something to do with the change of ownership?? The reception staff were excellent: getting me a coffee while I waited to check-in (the system was down) and then giving me 10% discount vouchers. The same ready and pleasant service was also in evidence in the Restaurant=a vast difference of attitude from what I experienced on my stay last November. Ditto for the room; no chipped.
all reviews I liked the clean homey atmosphere of the hotel and also the fact that it is only a 5 min drive to the Casino and race track. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Enjoyed the Shallows restaurant --- got an upgrade during the current renovations and appreciated that very much. Extremely friendly staff and service. Everyone was helpful when assistance was needed. Extremely clean, and an extremely convenient location. My get-away stay with my sisters was very much enjoyed and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again!. I loved everything about the hotel. Felt right at home. The quiet, the room was exceptional. It was one of best places I stayed in all my adventures. courteous staff on the front desk, very helpful. All questions were answered promptly, made for an enjoyable stay, thank you. Staff was pleasant, smiling, helpful. Hotel was clean in all areas. Coffee in the room was great as was having a fridge. The reception staff was very welcoming both my kids got a stuffed Canadian moose toy :). we were able to travel with our pet....easy access to facilities, shops in the area. N/A. I can not say that there was anything that I did not find satisfactory to excellent. Water and coffee in lobby were available when I checked in on Friday around 8pm. And the rest of my stay till Sunday the containers were empty. a little more expensive than we thought it was going to be...were not told that the pet would cost us $60..00?. No towel racks in the bathroom. One hook on the back of the door. The "green" card states that towels on the floor will be replaced. Towels hanging up will not. Hard to hang them up. Sitting area did not allow a place for foot rest. Table too high for feet and couch too short. No confectionary. Small outdated bathtub and toilet. More disappointed than didn't like. Too far from the center of Ottawa--however, the only hotel that had availability. Prices too high for location. Stayed 3 times in a 7 week period and each time price was higher for same kind of room. small hair proucts. Coordination between letsbookhotel.com and hotel. letsbookhotel.com did not notify the hotel about our booking!. construction started in the room or hallway right near us around 8 we would have liked to sleep in. Nothing in particular. Nothing. I had assumed that the cost for each night would be the same. According to my invoice I was charged more for the second night than the first night. Is this standard practice when booking through letsbookhotel.com?. Didn't like the internet service...we couldn't get internet on any of our devices. the fact I could not register for a return stay at the same price. Pool cleaning staff were very rude. Breakfast was eaten in main lobby, with only couches to sit on - no tables. Hallways were dirty and falling apart. Did not like that they were doing renovations at 830 am in the morning especially when we booked in at 230am.
