THere was a really nice relaxed and friendly bar in the hotel with nice beers. The room was very clean and comfortable and the showeroom and toilet very nicely decorated. Good shower. We enjoyed being quite high up in the eaves. Breakfast room was beautifully decorated and relaxing and we ate very well. We would definately come back when we do some more family history. We parked in one of the many carparks - the town is really very nice.
all reviews » The owners were very friendly and helpful, the rooms spotless, bright and quiet; similarly the bathroom. Beds provided a good night's sleep. Parking outside on a Sunday evening was easy and free. The town itself is lovely and a great place either to stop for the historic sites or en route before or after crossing the Channel. We will certainly stay there again. The hotel had everything I needed for a trip to the WW1 battlefields. The staff (who were the owners)were warm and friendly and very helpfull. The bar was great to finish off the day. Breakfast was always good and had choices to suit. We didn't try the evening meal but, next time we will be trying it. I have no hesitation in recomending the hotel to anybody. The landlord and Landlady were extremely pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was sumptious. We went for the WWI Connections and there was plenty to see. Town only 8 miles from Ypres. Hotel ideally situated 100 mtrs from lovely town centre. Nice eating places and very friendly people. It is a really good location in the middle of town, a good kicking off point for WW1 battlefields tours or war graves visits. There was an excellent buffet style breakfast. The rooms were clean and comfortable and there was reliable, free wifi. The owner was lovely, worked hard to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. I rate the hotel, very highly. Great breakfast, motorcyclist friendly, clean, comfortable, great shower, free wi-fi and very welcoming. The room was quite spacious (especially for Europe), even though the interior was a bit dated. It was close to the main market, but far enough away that you did not get the noise at night. Very clean. Location was excellent. Rooms were well appointed and much better than expected for the price. We were on motor bikes and were able to put them in secure parking at the premises. Everything was good, though a plan of the towns one way system to help locate the hotel is a good idea when planning a trip. The smell of Cigarette smoke in the entrance hall, where people were smoking just outside the front door. Nothing!. There was no lift and we're a bit old to be lugging baggage up narrow stairs. Otherwise it was a very pleasant stay. Nothing to dislike. No lift, so it was a bit difficult to carry my suitcase up the stairs. No phone in room. No tea or coffee facilities. There is nothing I hate more than not to have a strong cup of coffee as soon as I wake up. No shampoo only 2 mini soap bars on arrival. No hotel car parking (?) Strangely, some feral youths about the town centre(?). Nothing. Great Place. Nothing!. The room key was so big and heavy. I know that is random, but I guess that is what comes with a hotel that isn't corporate. The hotel says it has free wi-fi everywhere but it mainly only works on the first floor lobby which is not that big and is right in front of the smoky bar. We were on the top floor so they need to make sure that if they advertise there is free wifi it needs to be available to all clients. Room smelt of stale smoke. No hot drink making facilities in the room, no lift for those carrying large cases. Also we asked for a double bed and got a twin bed. Breakfast too dear. Went along the road and had an excellent breakfast for less than half the price. We didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel and the time we were there found nothing to dislike. no variety for breakfast, the same things every day.
