The location was superb - in the heart of Antwerp's lovely old town. The hotel itself was beautiful - lots of interesting and quirky features. Our room - up three flights of steep stairs - but worth it, was large and comfortable and had a fantastic view over the city's rooftops towards the cathedral. We loved it. The staff were friendly and helpful. Loved the unique, quirky, cool feel of the Hotel Matelot. The common rooms had gorgeous design elements: cool chandeliers, a lovely courtyard. Our room was really fun and funky, like a flat with a balcony, great windows, unique beams, very roomy. The hotel was sleek and beautiful and very central. Staff was very friendly and nice.

The suite was split to ground floor/first floor, wonderful bathroom. Directly in the center and quite like on the countryside. * Incredible location with nice view over the roof tops of the city. It was a friendly hotel in a great location right in the heart of the old town and in walking distances to some of the most popular sights. I really appreciated the staff, modernity of the rooms, central situation with many restaurants outside, close to a parking, calm... We had a loft style bedroom, lots of space, big bathroom, unique design, good choice at breakfast, quiet but in the centre. I like this hotel (and return to it) for the calming design and sleek style. The junior suites are especially spacious. The location is great and the living room & shared areas were really nice. We loved the cool design elements like the spiral staircase and the balcony -- but these wouldn't have been great for family members who are older or who have kids. And although the bathroom was beautiful the shower tended to leak a bit. nothing. * walls and ceiling in bathroom and room were dirty. No elevator, but it's a small hotel, not really necessary. No complains. Breakfast was disappointing and did not merit the EUR 12.00 charge. Lots of street noise in rooms facing street. Some small repairs need to be made, bulbs replaced, etc. nothing. No lift, but only an issue on arrival and departure. nothing I can think of. Nothing that I didn't like but I would have appreciated a carpet or something on the floor. It's a wood, shiny white painted floor, and for me, too "cold" ambiance. Rest was perfect. Several flights of steep stairs! And the coffee machine is best avoided... it's not a big hotel, why can't we just have simple, decent coffee?. Unable to watch tv from the bed in one of the junior suites and the stairs - but that can't be helped. The small room was a bit claustrofobic, so I would try to avoid it. Some amenities in the rooms (power plugs, smaller TVs without DVD player or internet connection). Can't drive to it. Need luggage wheels from car park 150(?) m away Old building with no lift, but staff will carry bags on request!!. a little Spartan for my likes but the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was ok, but I missed a bit of variation. Rooms were sparse and there was a lot of wasted space. No color (all white) was boring. Floor was weird and looked dirty.No elevator, which was fine for us, but could be a problem for others. noisy room (street noise) shower was not warm enough. Small room size, no parking very close by but plenty free parking 500m away. Room was a bit small and dark. In some areas, you see that the hotel could se fresh paint. No elevator and needed to carry suitcases up two flights of stairs. The room was quite bland and lacked character, heating was difficult to get right and the decor was in need of refreshing, with dirty marks and slightly shabby furniture. Noise from a neighbournig room was very noticeable. facilities older than it should be; not flexible about check out time,usually check out time is 12am however when i check out they said it should be 11 am and they charged me 10 euros for that without notice at the moment i checked in.
