What people say

I love the feel of it - just like grandma's house. I first went to this motel when the children were at boarding school. They loved it too and everyone was so friendly. Parking and a buffet breakfast is also good and a wine in one of the lounges downstairs is a great end to shopping in Queen street. You can tell I'm from the bush.
all reviews We were booked in by a friend, having travelled from Melbourne. Very comfortable with delightful decor, a most relaxing feel. Restaurant is fabulous and the staff extremely helpful. We would stay again and are already recommending it to our friends. The staff were excellent. Welcomed us and made every effort to see we were comforatable. The use of the bar and library for a quite drink after we had come back from dinner with friends made the night special. Location was great. Close to beautiful beaches, including Bondi, parklands, quaint pub life and the city. The hotel itself has an old world charm and staff were friendly and attentive. Attitude of staff. Willingness to help. Able to have a drink in comfortable & relaxed environment after function. We had been at cricket. Lovely breakfast. We had booked a room with king-size bed and were upgraded to the Manor. Very nice, spacy room, beautifully furnished. En-suite also very nicely renovated. The location of this boutique hotel is very good and right amongst the Paddington Shops.Furnishing and fittings are unique and the hotel has a good theme. I stayed here with my dog a staffie x and we had a great time! The whole suburb is very dog friendly and the dog park is only across the road. Lovely old property with character, which shows in the furniture, the art work around the place etc Great location. Love this hotel we have stayed many times. A little whacky and unusual and has a family homely feel. Great atmosphere. Very individual. Close to everything. Pet friendly. Superb staff. The old world charm, the breakfast, the reading room, the history. Everything!. Great value for money in a really good spot. Close to the city an nice area. Friendly staffs if price is less than A$100,then it is reasonable. Unique and homely, nice change from other hotels. Loved the ambience of rooms - very old world. Very nice old building made into a hotel. The location, and staff were excellent. The Hughenden is a historic place with lots of atmosphere and old-world charm. It's a lovely place with a nice, quiet roof-top terrace, a front porch and an indoor lounge/bar area. There is also a good breakfast included. Staff is friendly and helpful. The location is central with easy access to frequent buses, however the immediate area is rather quiet and has an upmarket vibe. Location is excellent for our purposes. Close to the city, Bondi, Paddington. We like the idea of staying in a private hotel without all the hoopla of major hotel chains. Breakfast is good value. Staff are friendly. The location was great, I love the area and the architecture of the buildings here. Great shops. The staff friendly and helpful and there were interesting photos and old furniture pieces. The purpose of my trip entailed being in the eastern suburbs and the hotel was well placed for my needs. Liked the boutique hotel, good breakfast, and restaurant for dinner. We liked the idea of the Edwardian furnishings which lent ambience to the period of the Hotel. We chose the Hughenden to be near to friends. Breakfast was very good. The sheets were good quality and the towels were fluffy. Handy for concert at horden pavilion. The history of the hotel and their collection of books , comfy and Friendly loungearea. Friendly staff Looks nice from outside Breakfast included. Proximity to the city , Bondi and Oxford street. Pleasant and helpful staff. The charm of the building. the location was fantastic. nice location, central. I loved its charm. Cute bnb. The breakfast was very good. The staff was very cooperative and helpful. Good access to buss system. Location was good. Breakfast was good. Location. Liked the location. Wonderful. Good breakfast. Location. Nothing. The rooms are small and the ensuite's smaller for what you pay. Completely satisfied. No towels were in our room upon arrival ! Not impressed with the $30 carpark fee that is not advised to you upon arrival. I have since complianed to the hotels management and I am now satisfied with my response and this will not affect my decision to stay again. Because of the re furbishment of the restaurant the breakfast arrangements were disappointing. This will change and be a great breakfast experience as it always was. wifi? unable to use. room a bit small. breakfast is too simple. Perhaps more variety for breakfast. It was only a "standard" room, and was okay - the bed was comfortable. However the bathroom was very rundown and a bit crummy. The was nowhere in the bathroom to put anything. I was unable to read in bed using the bedside lamps as they were too dim. I stayed in two different rooms, and I saw a cockroach in both of them, as well as in the sofa on the front porch. Cleaning could be better. The rooms are on the small side if you opt for the cheaper ones. Wifi was quite slow. The room was tiny. We knew that, but for the price the value is marginal. We were disappointed that parking now costs. Free parking used to be a fair trade off for the small room. The TV doesn't provide access to all channels which was a bit of a pain when we decided on a night in to relax. Although I like quaint, our room was more shabby than quaint. Badly in need of repair and the tile and shower were very grotty. I could even have put up with that had we paid $100 a night but we paid $250 and for this level I would expect much more. The breakfast was also very basic for the amount we paid. Room was a bit sparse and small. However fine for a short stay. The bathroom. Parts of the wall tiles had cracked and some broken away. The basin was cracked also and the toilet not well situated. We only had a standard room. It was in need of a revamp and the shower needed retiling. Room smelt of damp Boutique in Australia may have a different definition to that seen in Europe Not particularly good value for money. Stayed in far nicer city centre modern apartment for same price in Sydney. Thought it needed something , perhaps a little bit of personality by the staff wouldn't go astray. The rooms needed a little re furbishment. I still think $300 was tops. Facilities and rooms need updating at least to look more modern - ie update furniture and repaint to brighter colour. No lift. Won't be able to stay there much longer as my husband is in his eighties. Pity, as a lift would solve all!. i was a guest approx 13 years ago and it would appear that very little has changed in those 13 years. everything was clean but just looked tired. early fire brigade wake up call...... suggest breakfast toasters are placed further from smoke detectors and warning signs erected. We're not told about builders early start. Paying for parking was an absolute joke. Smelt damp and stuffy in my room. Could be a drain issue. Room was too light with curtains too far out from wall to block out the bright light from outside security lights. The hotel was a bit out of the way. Very pricey for the type of accommodation. Washroom facilities must be upgraded. There is a fine line between historic and rustic versus old and decrepit. I think this hotel is on the verge of crossing that line. Stayed in the "small" room. Minute would have been a better description. It was dated, dusty and musty. No room to move. Bathroom minute with no fan, cockroaches scuttling along the corridors. If this is a 4 star hotel the Hilton should rate an 8. I didnt like the way one of the staff came in with a box on the friday morning and proceeded to fill it with food off the breakfast table...e.g. scrambled egg ... breads etc etc...enough for the weekend. Also as there are dogs allowed, I had a number of flea bites. Over priced, extreme budget accommodation. Should describe itself as a hostel rather than a hotel. No plug in the wash hand basin. No window in the room, that one was able to open. Dirty coffee cups were left for twenty-four hours. Many poor items. Room not clean. No soap in bathroom. Lampshade broken and had to replaced. Cracked hand basin. Toilet lid catches broken. Down pipes not painted. Your are now beyond a funky hotel, your a funky hotel at a high price with poorly presented rooms.
