This was our first trip to Edinburgh.
We were hoping to book a hotel closer to the city centre, but as ours was a last minute booking, we were limited for choice.
As it turned out, the Britannia was just perfect for us and we're now very pleased we chose it.

The price was nice and the sleep was good: these are main criteria for a good stay. The hotel itself is ugly, massive, chain-like, but people are okay, walking distance to town attractive, there is a park and a river road, so, I recommend this place!

Tout, Particulièrement l'amabilité de la réceptionniste (espagnole) s'impliquant pour que le restaurant nous reçoive malgrè l'heure tardive de notre arrivée. Channings was an outstanding hotel. I was extremely impressed with the staff who were very friendly and helpful. As we arrived early they upgraded our room to one which was available and it was amazing, the biggest bath I had ever seen. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. - Good quality. Good staff. Breakfast was good value - just over £8 for unlimited buffet (inc. cooked breakfast) and unlimited Costa coffee.
My bedroom was spacious and the bed was really comfortable.
Location good - 5-7 mins walk to Princes Street and 10-15 mins walk to Royal Mile/castle.

Fabulous hotel. Staff were great, everybody was friendly and polite and went out of their way. Location is super, 2 minutes walk from haymarket station and 15 walk into Edinburgh city centre. Buses stopped outside the hotel to go to Princes street if you didn't fancy the walk. Food was good, we had breakfast and was lovely with lots to choose from. Didn't eat there otherwise but saw the food and it looked very nice. Rooms and beds clean and comfy. Great hotel.

This hotel is like my view of an old hotel should be steeped in history and splendour. It was a pleasure the rooms are not modern although they do have the touches like the plasma tv and modern bathroom. Overall I would not change anything about the hotel it was perfect. I'm on gluten free diet - had no problems whatsoever. The chef even amended the Valentine's Day menu in the Grill Room. All the staff were exceptionally helpful. The rooftop hyropool was wonderful. - The upgrade to our room was very comfortable and appreciated. The staff were all very helpfull and friendly.
