  From the moment that we drove down through the city streets to City Center Hotel, we knew that the location was just right on. We were near the majority of restaurants, museums & galleries and shopping. Everything was in walking distance. The staff was very helpful in all aspects that a visitor to Iceland would expect.   The room was very spacious and had a small kitchenette. Having a ear plug was a nice touch due to being in a busy area. Also, having a jacuzzi tub in the room was a bonus.   We were a family group: Grandpa, Grandma, Daughter, grandsons ages 11, 12. We needed affordable lodging near shopping and public transportation. Downtown Reykjavik Apartments (dra) met and exceeded our requirements. The dra is just 2 blocks from one of the main bus stations in Reykjavik. From that point, one can travel anywhere in the City. We also saw a family studio which was bigger and again very clean and pleasant. I asked to upgrade our room as I wanted a bit more space (the prices are very reasonable and I was happy to pay more).   We stayed in the Vatnsstigur 11 building, which is perfectly located just off the main street Laugevegur - close to everything, but not disturbed by nightlife at all. No reception staff, but self check-in and finding the room key was easy. Just 200 yards from the sea front and the Sun Voyager statue. The one bedroom apartment (403) was great.   The staff were all incredibly nice and helpful, and they make you feel right at home. The facilities were great too (fully-equipped kitchen, hot showers with tub, and free laundry facilities). The bathrooms aren't gorgeous, but they are charming and everything works quite well. The location was good as well. We were making a first visit to the University. Innkeeper Thorri was very helpful and kind. As we walked around Reykjavik, we never saw a better value for this level of amenities and character. We love staying in historic and cultured homes like Gastafell. The 1 bedroom apartment was fully equipped and in a wonderful quiet location but literally minutes from everything. Breakfast was excellent.
