The staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Bed was also very comfortable after a long day. Very welcoming and staff are very pleasent and helpful. Excellent breakfast and it was all very accomadating for me. Will return. Didn't actually stay at The Gables, as we were upgraded to Ashley House. So all comments apply to this hotel. When I got there the hotel was empty! I had been up-graded to the sister site (The Ashley Hotel). They left a message on my phone at home but I didn’t get it. Apart from the mix up, which didn’t bother me all that much, I really enjoyed my stay. The room was small but had a nice bath room with a shower and very a comfortable bed. It was just enough for me.all reviews »
breakfast very nice. the intercoms a brillant idea as staff are always on call. staff are very friendly and happy to point out where all the wothwhile places to visit are. the staff were welcoming. i was a bit wary of going after reading the reviews on here but it was all fine and not as bad what people make out. close to town and the confrense centre. Very good breakfast. Friendly staff. very clean and staff were friendly. Breakfasts. Nothing!!! It was filthy. The stairs up to the room hadn't been cleaned for years. The bedroom was small, scruffy and dirty. The shower/loo was horrendous, it hadn't been cleaned there was hair all over the shower and toilet floor, dust and dirt. I couldn't face using the shower.large bed (actually two twin beds made together) was fine on one side, but a bit saggy on the other. No off street parking, unlike at The Gables but I was given a permit which allowed me to park on the street.Found one or two objects from previous users in room. furnishings were a bit tatty. Tatty. I didn't like anything about it. Totally disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If we hadn't paid before seeing the room we would not have stayed.Everything. It was an old and dirty hotel with a very umprofessionalstaff. And no management.

Important information to guests
Reception staff are available during the day via the intercom system and will always be there within 5-minutes of ringing. The owner resides in the sister Guest House and is available 24 hours a day.
Full payment is required on check-in.
Please note that there will be no breakfast available on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Years Day.

There is a varied selection of bars and excellent restaurants, and a bustling night life.
Harrogate is very close to the picturesque city of York and the busy city of Leeds. There are regular bus and train services to both cities.

Iron/ironing boards are available on request. Please ask at reception if you require any shoe-cleaning materials, hairdryers or shampoo etc. Alarm calls can be booked at reception, for which there is no charge.
Travelling information
By Car
From York:
- Proceed along the A6460 and at the main roundabout, take the turn onto the A59 Skipton Road.
- Proceed, and take the 5th left onto Kings Road.
- West Grove Road is on the right-hand side, past the parade of shops.
From Leeds:
- Come into Harrogate on the A61, and at the main roundabout turn right onto the A6040.
- Proceed to the next roundabout, and turn left onto the A59.
- Proceed, and take the 5th left onto Kings Road.
- Continue as above.
