The hotel room was very spacious and quiet.The hotel location was in a nice area and easy to get into Edinburgh by bus we were able to park our car in the grounds and leave it there during our stay.Good food ,friendly staff and a nice hotel with character. Overall had a lovely visit. Really pleasant welcome - even though the booking had not been sent to them!! Fortunately I had a copy and they found me a room.

The price.No lift to rooms on 3rd floor. No lift and whilst rooms were clean they were very tired and need re-decorating.having to go out of the hotel when there was a fire alarm. Room was a little on the small side. There was no lift. We were allocated rooms on the second floor with parents in their eighties so we could only stay one night and then had to find alternative accommodation. The shower was to small and it kept going from hot to cold. Bedroom too hot. Breakfast - pre-cooked, help yourself food may be convenient but not so palatable as freshly cooked. At check-in we were given keys to a room already occupied. However, we very quickly did get another room and profuse apologies.Staff were obviously keen to get away at breakfast - when we went to get food from the hot buffet our tea and toast was cleared away (but not the used cereal plates). We did get more!. The trifle in the Bistro. Very small double room. The breakfast staff were very noisy and the room adjacent to the dining room was being hoovered while we had breakfast. The bar service was very slow and disorganised. The meal in the dining room was one of the worst that I have had for years and was certainly not value for money. Hotel is victorian type building .. with sash windows .. which are very draughty .. however to be fair .. there was an official gail blowing and it was snowing very heaviliy .. was -3 outside .. and they provided extra heating as soon as they were asked .. bless em. No leisure facilities.The bathroom is very small. Hardly no place for storing the toilet bag. Hotel decor was old and tired....breakfast had old and rotting fruit which I brought to the attention of the waiting staff but it was all probably several days old. Small room not as expected..wont re-book to stay there again. Paid £69 for a double room BandB, normal rate was over £200 in effect £69 is all it realy worth!!.
